Peyton Manning possibly overrated?

Marvin Harrison, Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne were stars before Peyton Manning? Really ndj101982?

They can sure as hell catch better than what Brady had before and after Moss. Really MisterAE

Hmmm...you want to debate this, we have a sports talk radio show where we will debate this very topic. You posted it...you really want to hear what people are thinking, listen to the show. I will post the link later and the show starts at 11pm EST tonight ( 11/30/2010 ). I would be curious to hear your thoughts.

I really like Brady in the top five. He could adapt to any type of offense. He was a big numbers guy and now they are winning with a short game and virtually no run. Peyton who I love will alwyas be a thrower, win, lose of draw, however, no flexibility. The problem with this thread, how much do playoffs and Super Bowl count as opposed to regular season? Tarkenton had huge numbers lifetime but was another 0 for in Super Bowls... Michael Vick? Let's wait another year or four. He was only a .500 qb before the season started. Drew Brees and Phil Rivers are starting to put up big numbers year after year and what if Eli wins another Super Bowl?

Funny....they still caught the ball even if they were "better" then what Brady had. Deon Branch could have easily became Reggie Wayne/Marvin Harrison if not for Bellechik and his "I do not want to pay" attitude. And please, do explain how garbage Wes Welker is compared to Wayne/Clark/Harrison.

Look, I love manning despite this post. I just have no confidence in him when it comes to important games or the playoffs. He doesn't throw like 20 picks a year, but he throws a lot of picks in big game situations. I just think that he tries to much for the glory play rather than being smart and throwing it away when he doesn't have a receiver open.

I shouldn't say Brady is better, but Brady uses his head most of the time and doesn't go for the hero play when he has a guy open in the short field.

Deion Branch is NOT Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne. Wes Welker is about the same as Dallas Clark, but Brady didn't have him when he won 3 super bowls. Brady did it with a far less talented receiving core than Manning did.

The only bad thing about this post... I couldn't call anyone a dumbass liberal. I think we should debate on who were the best holders of all time on field goals. The only Holder I can name is Attorney General Eric Holder... who is a dumbass liberal!

Since you didn't have the GUTS to debate it on the air, I consider it a useless thread. But, I will say this, overrated? Unless you yourself can do it better on a professional level, you really shouldn't call anyone overrated. Especially if you can't do the job yourself.

Also, Troy Brown the year BEFORE Brady became a starter had 83 receptions which means Brown was starting to make an impact as a WR. Just thought you should know that.

3 more picks for mannning today. 2 of them ran back for touchdowns. I rest my case.

Make that 4 picks today, cost his team the game and possibly the playoffs. So what's that now? 11 picks in 3 games. That's not a bad game or two. That's a player who is much like Brett Favre in that he gets credit for the glory and often overlooked for his fuck ups.

Dude, you do not know anything about football do you? You just hate Peyton Manning don't you? I also noticed your location is in Massachusetts. Hmmmm, no wonder you have this stupid notion that Peyton is overrated.

Look at Peyton Manning's career instead of the last 3-4 games. Better yet, why don't you ask any NFL player to see if they think Peyton is overrated when they face him. Stop sucking on the Patriots nuts and be objective...

This has to the funniest post I have ever seen on a sports forum.

Is the OP serious?? This was a joke, right?

LMAO

If Im down with two minutes left in the game, and I have a choice between Brady and Manning, not that I could go wrong either way, but I want Brady.

The guy came with in a TD pass of quarterbacker the greatest team in NFL history, he's got two more rings than Manning, and head to head, Brady owns Manning.

Head-to-head? This isn't tennis. Brady owned the Colts D. Manning would have done the same. Manning would have more rings if he had the support Brady has.

And the same intel Brady got from Belicheat. Lets not forget that.

GUTS is a ridiculous accusation. I have a LIFE and was out with that night. Sorry to disappoint you.

That's something I debate with other about. If you put Peyton Manning in the Patriots offensive system, is it Manning that wins the three of four super bowls?

One bad stretch where he is basically without a ton of weapons does not overshadow all the years of brilliance. One thing that seperates your average NFL fan from the diehards is blaming any single game on one player. There are about 5 to 6 plays for each team over the course of the game that determine the outcome usually. Also we have no idea if some of his wideouts ran the wrong route, cut one off, or read a play differently then he did and they just werent on the same page. There are so many little things in football that if you fail to understand, then you just end up blaming one player.

Peyton Manning having a bad year... however a first ballot Hall of Famer!

agreed he's a hall of famer. He's likely going to hold the TD record and passing yards records before he retires. I just don't think he can be considred one of the top 5 of all-time based on those stats alone seeing as how Brett Favre is definitely not in the top 5.

Yeah...whatever! Yet you have posts out here for that night during the time of that show. In fact, it was at 11:36pm when you had your last post that night. But if you say you were out, then that post at 11:36pm about the Miami Heat was someone inpersonating you.

As far as gutless rivers12 or whatever you want to call yourself. Sending PM's and cursing people out is gutless. So it is not a ridiculous accusation. In fact, it is quite accurate. State your case without being sneaky and calling people names. Then being everyone's friend out here.

As far as Peyton being overrated, he has had some bad games. You are quite accurate in Peyton having 11 INT's over the last three games. A terrible job by Peyton. But his numbers speak for themselves.

As far as Tom Brady, had you listened to the show, you would have known the numbers I have for him as well. I also think you are accurate in saying Brady probably would NEVER have a three game stretch that Peyton has had. I think you make compelling arguments, but still I would take Peyton Manning. But that is just an opinion.

That doesn't mean I am right, but it doesn't mean I am wrong either. Just giving you what I know.

once again manning an all-time great. i still think he is just out side of the top ten. i think we are forgetting what the word overrated means and alot of time the media blows up manning as the the greatest and most dangerous QB that ever took the field.. i still think there are about eleven and twelve better then him. as far as cast go look at this bledsoe had the same cast for the most part the three prevouis seasons and couldnt do anything until brady arrived. in the end i just think montana brady aikmen elway kelly bradshaw marino farve stalbach and a few others were clear cut better
