Ok,let see if this makes any sense.I like to save pics and use them on my sites. The thing is in my browser window when,I go to save them it comes up with bitmap and not a jpg.Is there any way in my browser I can change so I can save them to jpg's instead of bitmaps. Thanks,in advance.

IE has a number of bugs which lead to this situation; personally I've only ever experienced it with large JPEG images, when IE only wants to save them out as bitmaps. Solutions offered on the web include emptying your Temporary Internet Files (Tools menu -> Internet Options -> General tab -> Temporary Internet files area -> Delete Files button) and setting the size of your webcache smaller - apparently IE doesn't cope well with large numbers of items stored in the temporary internet cache. Do the latter by clicking Settings in the same area as before and lowering the size, to say 100-200 MB. I can't say that either of those helped me, but they seemed to help others. The alternative is to get some download manager program, find the address of the file you want and download it manually.

Thanks,Slant that has seemed to work.Again thanks for the help.

If you read the original thread you will know my problem.I was doing as was suggested. But,now that doesn't work I clear all that stuff out and reset everything and only get bitmaps, how can I get the pics to be jpg's.Any help will be appreciated. And thanks.

I have the same problem, but I use thumbs plus and it has a quick conversion option. I save them to a folder and then go in and change them all to JPGS. Paintshop may also have this option.

I dont know what software you have to view your files once saved, but it may also have that option.

Also, when saving pics from a site I usually right click on the thumbnail and use the save target as option. This will ususally save as a jpg or gif.

Hope this helps.

I've never had this problem before, until recently I did one of those windows update things. Now even animated gifs are saved as bitmaps. It really sucks. I tried what Slant suggested with no success. My machine allows me to "Rename" my saved pix to jpg's, but they're still bitmaps in regards to size and uploading restrictions. It's completely playing havoc with my favorite pastime. There should be a way to "order" this devil-box to save the pics as what I want!
