Please help me with my computer!

Hi,

Is there anyone out there who is a coputer whiz and can clean my computer? I have alot of tickling files saved--both pics and clips so I really don't just want to take it to any old computer shop. I will pay to ship and receive it back if someone can fix it. That person will also have acces to all of my clips--both paid and unpaid. Can someone please help?

Brian... What kind of computer do you have? What's your opperating system? Exactly what do you want done? You can delete specific files and remove evidence of them having been there if that's what you're looking to do. Or you can nuke the entire system and reinstall all your software if you want to rid it of everything. You're using the word "fix". But, you didn't mention anything wrong, simply that you want it cleaned...whatever that may mean in this case. More specifics about exactly what you need would be helpful. There may even be someone who can instruct you on how to do it yourself and save you shipping costs, etc. Just a friendly suggestion.

Hi Ann,

Thanks for the reply. I am a bit computer illiterate so I apologize. I have a Compaq with windows ME. The problem is that it keeps telling me that I have run out of room on my C: drive. I run my virus scan and it picks up all kinds of adware that it says that it can't delete, clean or quarentine and it is the source of the problem and I can't get rid of any of it. Does this help? Can you help?

Ahhh, IC. I know there are a number of decent FREE adware killers that can go through your system and dump all that junk. If you download things a lot or use any file sharing programs, you'll keep getting it back. (Most program downloads contain some.) So, keep it on your system when you're done with this round and it should help you avoid that in the future. Here's a link to one of the many free trials out there... http://www.spykiller.com/

If you decide to purchase an adware/spyware killing program, or simply use the free scans on a regular basis, it would be a good idea to save anything you download to a specific spot (a removable disc is best) and scan it before you actually install it. I scan my stuff for viruses before installing as well, since I occassionally download stuff from unknown sources.

Hi again,

Thank you for trying to help me. Unfortunately I don't have enough room to download anything new. I have used the spykiller free trial already so it won't work again. I have spyexterminator, but something must have gotten deleted by accident because it won't run. There is also not enough space on the C: drive for my Mcafee to run again either. This is going to take some serious professional help I think. If you have any other ideas please let me know or if you know someone who might specialize in this problem. Thanks again.

Hmmmm.....The only other thing I can think of would be to go in and manually delete the stuff you don't want/need to recover enough room for things to run properly. Then, you can go from there in cleaning up the rest. I don't have Windows ME. (I went from 95 to XP.) But, they're similar enough that I should be able to walk you through the process...if we can talk while we do it.

Do you happen to have AOL Instant Messenger? If you do have AIM and there's a time when you're sure to be on for a box of time (probably figure on an hour to get started and more later if necessary), let me know and I'll either be on then or will have posted here that I'm not able to. It might be best to have a couple day/time options just in case. I definitely won't be around over the weekend...lots going on. But, I can probably do something tomorrow or Friday. (Always looking to take breaks form yard work. 😉 )
