I regularly frequent the requests section of the forum, and make it a point to answer those that I think I can help with. The majority of the requests seem to be for video clips to be emailed. There seems to be some misunderstanding regarding free email services, and I'd like to get on my soapbox and spew forth a bit.
This has been explained in individual threads multiple times, but let me try again. Free email accounts do NOT work for receiving clips via email. This is strictly a questions of filesize and the limits of the services. Most free services limit the size of attached files to between 1 and 1.5 mb. This makes it impractical to send files via email to these accounts. The most common two are hotmail and yahoo mail, both of which have pretty sharp limits. Unless a clip is miniscule, it is unlikely to go through, so I've pretty much given up trying to help these individuals.
Even after telling them this, most of these people say plaintively "can't you just send it anyway?" or "could you just try?". I can almost hear the whimper. I've got news for you, guys, free mail services exist to advertise to you through your account, and don't particularly care if you whine or not. So just don't, since you can't convince or cajole a server (they tend to be humorless machines, and not even ticklish 😉 ).
Whew, didn't this thread end up long.
Anyway, I have a lot of clips that I'd be happy to share, but I won't be answering anybody that asks me to send to a free account. I suggest you do the same, and maybe they'll figure it out.
🙂
I'm done now.
