I really hate to bring this up, but I am very upset about the passage of bill S.1867 by the senate, and the similar bill that passed the house. When this bill becomes law, any American citizen can be arrested for any (or no) reason, tortured, and indefinitely imprisoned without due process of law. So I ask, does anyone else know this has happened? The national media has kept it pretty secret. Is anyone else upset? Does anyone else care?

Nope. Heard all about it.

It essentially takes a giant piss on the bill of rights.

If Obama's veto is overturned then it'll be up to the Supreme Court to decide. Also it should be noted that the wording of the bill itself allows for the USA to go into OTHER SOVEREIGN NATIONS and arrest people that are members of it's beloved citizens. The world isn't likely to be too happy about that.

Well I'm pretty worried. They say they are going after potential terrorists, but they also define a potential terrorist as someone with missing fingers, someone with 7 days of food, someone who owns a gun. Thats most of the population. Basicly they can lock up anyone they want, and they don't really need a reason. I sense that this is going to end with violence.

Let it also be known that the people who are being granted these powers directly oppose the bill. Both the Secretary of Defense, and the head of the CIA are against this measure. The Joint Chiefs aren't big fans of it either.

Expect that if it does go down, that very little will change, because nobody wants this shit.

Between this and SOPA, I'm getting my ass out of this country before eveveryone else decides that we aren't tolerable anymore.

We're pushing our luck as it is.

Whose we?

Oh wow. Isn't that supposed to depend on, y'know, the consent of the other sovereign nation(s)? This is essentially try to pass a (portion of) law that tries to overreach its authority. You need treaties to allow that shit. Other nations aren't going to recognize this law.

Precisely. The wording that allows legality to go into another nation's territory or airspace to "fetch" a USA Citizen to hold him or her without counsel or trial is just there to prevent another US citizen from suing because they feel it's wrong that their nation is going into other nations with permission and yanking people out. Other nations won't recognize this of course (because it is in a sense complete and utter bullshit) but the wording isn't there for that. It's to prevent our own citizen base from suing our government.
