How to get a Sonja-comic book!
The problem we have here is pretty simple, really. The conflict that arises is based on a clear principle - Supply and Demand.
Demand is not the demand for free material to pop up, but, as in any business (and MTJPublications is a business), it is the actual sales-numbers. The supply that can be offered is, of course, tied tightly to the profits that the company can make. A few things seem to be floating in peoples minds -
1. Ozzy has too much time on his hands and an obligation to supply the community with free material.
This is, of course, a weird way of looking at it. Ozzy is, actually, a great artist, who could charge much, much more for his work than he actually does, since it stays a work of love, for the most part. But he's got to eat too! And look at the quality of his works. That takes time and dedication. It's a professional achievement. And as long as he barely manages to justify all that effort put into producing these comics... Well, he won't be inclined to do even MORE work.
Conclusion - buy Yenny-stuff to support your favorite artist and show him that you love his work, and that you'd be willing to buy more. Like, Sonja-stuff. Once the sales show that kind of appreciation, I'm sure that a Sonja-publication will be only a matter of time.
2. MTJPublishing is raking in tons of money, because the prices are too high.
Hmm. This community is not, shall we say, mainstream. There ain't that many ticklers in the world. And only a small, small fraction of them buys tickling-related material. And printing a professional magazine, or comic-book, costs money. Especially in small numbers. Don't believe it? Go to your local printer and ask them what they would demand for such a job. You'll be surprised. So as long as there's small numbers of sales, there's simply NO WAY that MTJPublishing can afford another endeavor, like a Sonja comic-book. Yes, afford. This is not a multi-national corporation we're talking about here. It's a small company, also the work of love for the community, that strives to give us what we want to see. They can't afford to throw out new material left and right, because, you see, artists and writers want to be paid, too - I should now, as an author. And the printing, as I already said, is expensive. Especially if many of the printed copies collect dust on the shelves because no-one wants to buy them. You want more material? Support the producers, it's that easy.
Conclusion - Buy MTJPublishing material to build up some fundings, which can be invested into new projects.
3. There's not enough free material.
Yeah. There never is. You know why? Because, after a while, people get fed up with investing tons of work into producing free stuff, only to earn nothing but a small pat on the shoulder. And often times, not even that. I know the feeling of getting no feedback on my work intimately. Imagine how it feels to work on something, give it away, and then not even getting praise or thanks, but non-constructive criticism and a DEMAND, of all things, for more. That's not very uplifting. Show support! If the commercial product sells, there's so much more motivation for the artists to produce more, share-ware material.
Conclusion - Support ANY producer who's product you like by BUYING their product. Otherwise, it won't stay available.
Okay, so much for now. I apologize for sounding so harsh, but I, for one, want MORE material as well. I don't want to see MTJPublishing go out of business. Neither do I want Ozzy to feel harrassed by requests who say basically that he should invest more energy for nothing. I want us all to be happy, and productive, and supportive.
Help out today and buy what you want to stay on the market, invest in the future! Thank you in advance.
(This is a general statement, not aimed at anyone in particular. However, if the shoe fits you and you feel I've been addressing you personally, it should give you some food for thought.)
