I am an avid traveler and am often looking for something new in the food department. So I'd love to here suggestions for your areas!

Omaha has a lot going on in the restaurant department. I'd recommend Omaha Prime or Mahogany for steaks. Seriously good stuff. Lo Sole Mio is a wonderful Italian joint, as is Vivace. Canton House is my go-to for authentic Asian dishes. It's a great dim sum spot.

What do you folks have to add?

For downhome food, you can't go wrong with Threadgill's.

In the mood for Chinese?

Matt's El Rancho is an iconic Austin institution.

The building may not look like much, and Airport Blvd. dosen't either, but don't let that fool you. Quality Seafood serves some of the best seafood to be found in Austin.

For BBQ, Rudy's is one of the best places in town. Try to go on a nice day so you can sit outside, or in the screened patio. The small inside dining room is very
noisy during peak hours.

Well, just because we're a small city in the north, it doesn't mean that Durham is without some very good places to eat 🙂

There's the Slug and Lettuce, where the food is great, and the atmosphere is even better:

And also, just across the street from my house, is Bells Fish and Chips. Always worth a visit if you happen to pass through Gilesgate 🙂

RIP French Cafe. That was a classic spot in Omaha for a loooong time. Try The Grey Plume, though!

There's all sorts of good restaurants in the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

For a great Reuben (or a multitude of other sandwiches) and potato pancakes, there's Izzy's (which can be seen on the show Man versus Food.

For some of the best double-decker sandwiches, there's Red Squirrel.
(I couldn't find a good picture of their sandwiches. Every Google search for Red Squirrel produces exactly that.

Cincinnati has its own, unique style of chili, typically found with shredded cheese on top of hot dogs--or "coneys," or combined with shredded cheese and spaghetti in what is called a "three-way." It is best showcased at a number of establishments, such as Skyline Chili, Gold Star Chili, Camp Washington Chili, or Blue Ash Chili, among others.

At a few locations downtown, and across the border into Northern Kentucky, there's a place called Tom + Chee, which specializes in grilled cheese and tomato soup. This place is also known for having the "grilled cheese doughnut." It's an ordinary glazed doughnut with cheese and blueberry compote (also seen on the Cincinnati episode of Man versus Food.)

Ha! I've had a slice.... Today.

Towns like Columbia have the best pizza. Lawrence, Madison, etc...

The Texas Chili Parlor. An iconic place here.

Hut's Hamburgers. Nothing really fancy, just big, juicy burgers.

Possibly the best burgers in Austin can be found at Mighty Fine. Pricey for a hamburger place, but worth every penny. During peak hours, a line of people often spills out onto the sidewalk. These are burgers the way I remember them tasting 30 years ago and more.

If you want steak, Vince Young Steakhouse gets rave reviews. Expensive, but not as pricey as Ruth's Chris.

Bugman, this is very helpful as I plan on visit Austin within a year.

Thanks to you and everyone else for suggestions.

I can usually trust Trip Advisor or Yelp!, but it's always nice to get a local opinion straight from the source.

Chicago is apparently the culinary capitol of America these days. I think we have like 3 top chef winners with at least one restaurant each here including Moto (where the menus are edible and they use crazy shit like liquid nitrogen to freeze things) and Sweetwater. We've got the Chicago classics like Rosebud, fancy Italian food, and Lawry's, some bad ass steak house. Every Chicago sports person ever seems to have a restaurant. Michael Jordan Steakhouse, Harry Caray's, I think Mike Didka has a restaurant here.

Best pizza - Paisano's on State street (dont do the usual Chicago deep dish at Giordano's, this place has nothin but actual Italian guys waiting on you, and the thin crust is amaaaazing)

Best hot dogs - Portillos if you want the traditional Chicago dog dragged through the garden. Hot Doug's if you wanna try something crazy like a duck sausage with foie gras on top or an irish banger with cheddar mustard cream sauce and french fried onions. It's hella good, but hella crowded. Go on a Friday or Saturday cuz that's when they make the duck fat fries. So damn good.

If you're going to St Louis, try Schlafly Tap Room for beer and food or an Imo's for pizza and toasted ravioli. If you're looking for a kink-positive coffee shop, a trip to Shameless Grounds never disappoints.

I will be in St. Louis in the spring, so thanks! I've had Schlafly's beers (really like their APA), so I'll have to check their taproom out.

Oh, and if you're across the river, Lotawata Creek in Fairview Heights, IL has southern-style cooking and gives you portions big enough for 2 or 3 meals. Tucker's in South County is also good for steaks.

Some of the resturants mils mentions are interesting.

I havent been to Peter Luger in years, but I know its very good.

I have been to Shun Lee Palace several times since my return to NY. It's my father's favorite resturant. I havent paid the bill there recently, but, to give everyone an indication of just how expensive it is, I took my father there for lunch on his 60th bday, 12 years ago, and it cost me $91 for both of us. I'm guessing the bill would be double now. Its also always packed, regardless of the economy.
