Yes, I know its four days away.

However,

www.weather.com.

Seems to be predicting a potential Winter Storm For Sunday Night Into Monday.

Based on their usual pieced together forecast for time periods during the storm.

It seems to add up to close to a foot of snow.

Until the past week, the winter has been pretty mild here.

Now, the last few days, it has gotten cold, and is expected to get brutally cold Friday and Saturday with highs in the 20s F.

We have had little if any snow since the major snowstorm in mid December.

Its still four days away of course.

We will see if this storm comes to pass.

While it is still three to four days away, the forecast on www.weather.com seems to be deteriorating.

Now.

There is a 75% chance of 3 to 5 inches of snow Sunday night, 5 to 8 inches of snow Monday, and 1 to 3 inches of snow Monday night.

While one can discount such a forecast so many days away , in December they predicted a foot of snow.. many days away, and the forecast was right on.

This is definitely something to be watched.

The forecast seems to make no sense.

There have been no watches or warnings issued yet.

However.

www.weather.com says.

"Watching a potential winter storm"

Accumulations of what seem to be 6 to 10 inches.

Yet they are saying.

"Chance of snow 100%"

The temps are also going to be close to freezing, which means if something does come, it could be snow, mix, or rain.

We will see what actually comes

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the NYC area for Sunday night into Monday for 6 to 9 inches of snow.

We will see what comes of this.

The forecast for NYC seems to be deteriorating.

Although we are still under a Winter Storm Watch.

They are now saying 6 to 12 inches will fall.

There is a Winter Storm Warning as far north as Philadelphia, 90-100 miles south of here

For 7 to 12 inches.

It looks like something major is coming

The Boom has been lowered with the snowstorm.

www.weather.com.

Is now saying 14 to 18 inches for NYC as a Winter Storm Warning has been issued.

If this turns out to be true, it would be the biggest snowstorm here since 2016

This is also with some mixing with rain, supposedly.

We will see if this all turns out to be accurate.

Had dozed off for a bit.

Awakened now., (Close to 2 am Eastern time) to find extremely heavy snow outside my window.

Here we go!

They are still saying 16 to 22 inches expected.

Snowstorm is here in earnest.

This is beginning to look like January 23, 2016

(I only remember the date because it was my birhday)

When we had the all time NYC record for snow.. 30 inches.

They are saying 18 to 24 inches with this one.

The difference was. That storm was late Friday night, into Saturday, and by Sunday it was fine.

This one is supposed to last until tomorrow night.

We will see what comes to pass

Well it is either I'm not good at judging snow. or one can't see from high up.

Central Park in Manhattan has had 13 inches so far, and parts of Queens have had 10 to 13 inches.

Granted, it s been snowing since about midnight last night, but right now it looks like there is nothing on the ground.

A lot of wind is blowing at the moment, and there is a mix.

Apparently there was a lot of snow.

It is supposed to snow/sleet for at least 12-24 more hours

Edit. WABC TV in NY said that Jamaica Queens, about 5 miles from me, had 14 inches of snow as of about an hour ago.

They also said that while it will be going back and forth between snow, sleet, rain and flurries, there will be precip for at least another 24 -36 hours, with a few more inches possible.

Definitely a blockbuster storm.

It will be interesting to see what the final totals are.

If this snowstorm is not as bad as 2016, it is very close.

The difference was.. in 2016. While NYC had the 25-30 inches of snow, it lasted 24 hours. After that it was gone.

I remember because it was my birthday. It started on a Friday night into Saturday morning, snowed all day Saturday, and by Sunday it was okay./

The only other storm I remember that was anything like this, was the Blizzard of 1996. We had 21=22 inches when I lived in NJ

That storm started early on a Sunday morning, it snowed for 36 hours, and was over on Monday night.

This storm definitely ranks in the top 2 or 3 of my lifetime.

I usually would stay home during a storm like this.

However, when I looked at the streets, I bundled up, put on snow shoes, and was like.

"If its too slippery I will come back upstairs"

I made it to the next street to shop and get takeout food. I was not going to the far away market that I have to shop in, but one block I was able to manage.

Right now, there are still snow squalls, and its very windy and cold.

I hope that tomorrow will start to get better.

Somebody built this huge snowman in Central Park. :shivering:

Well not that it matters anymore, because we might well have problems from another storm on Sunday.

According to wabc.com in a post from yesterday.

Elmhurst, which is the next town from me, got 14 inches.

Slightly less than the 17 inches officially measured in Central Park.

I thought that I heard mixing with sleet or rain during the last storm, so that could be why we had a little less than Manhattan.

Hopefully this next storm, if it does come, will not be as severe as the one that just hit us.
