Poultry - any experts?

Hello everyone,

Perhaps a contender for the most bizarre post this year so far, but I am wondering if anyone here is an expert in poultry and could identify the attached Hen/Rooster/Cockerel for me?

I have had a look at various online breed guides but nothing seems to quite match....is it a Cochin? A Rhode Island Red? Appenzeller?

I have previously had neighbours and partners who have kept chickens, but they cannot help in this matter.

I took the photo at a secret nuclear bunker in Essex (UK) and want to add it to my Flickr stream as some light relief from the usual transport photography, but I would like to label/tag the photo correctly so that fellow hen enthusiasts can find my photo through the search function.

Many thanks in advance

Frankly, I'm more apt at Water Pollo. But, as I understand it, there are a lot of gals here on the TMF that are very experienced at identifying random cock from photos.

Have any eggs been laid as a result of this familiarity with cocks?

Incidentally, this hen is also for sale. Will you buy my hen?

(Sorry, that last bit was a quote from Douglas Adams' 'Starship Titanic')

Not a Cochin (they have feathered legs). My guess is a Rhode Island Red. But I didn't have to learn that many poultry breeds...

Thanks Desdemona, I knew there would be a veterinarian in the house somewhere 🙂
Rhode Island Red was pretty much the closest match I could find. I was staggered by the variety of breeds.

Cheers
