I know that there's certain types of massage that you should not give to a pregnant woman...

Is tickling bad for them? Ok for them? GOOD for them?

it's ok

i tickled my wife through all 3 pregnancies. truth be told, i asked the dr. and he said any activity she's been doing along is ok, just nothing new, and with in reason. i tickled her in the delivery room, lol.

I used to tickle my former wife during both pregnancies as well. You just shouldn't dig your fingers deeply into the tummy area, but light surface tickling is okay. Besides, there are a lot of other ticklish areas...

On a scientific note: It's well known that the mother's hormones have a lot of influence on the child in her womb. Tickling and laughter produce a load of serotonin and endorphines, which are responsible for our wellness. So, it's certainly not wrong to tickle the mother-to-be. As Steve said, all within reason, of course... 😎

I wouldn't recommend anything REAL aggresive...anything that would risk the mother to be pulling a muscle or injuring herself, but playful tickling is completely acceptable! Heck, my OB/GYN tickled me while I was in labor! LOL

Pregnant Tickles

The first time my kids mom became pregnant I was extremely worried about almost any kind of touch other than the softest stroking. She had to tell me a time or two that, at least in the early stages, she didn't suddenly become fragile.

That was a good thing because, for me "tickling" is a process that involves many fun activities from chasing to teasing to threatening to begging to laughing and pushing the envelope in this most fantastic of nature's gifts to the limit.

Some of this I know from experience of several pregnancies, some I like to think. Here's what I know. When my wife became pregnant, so much about her that's female became more so. Her breasts became larger and, well, more busty (is that word bustier??? No, wait, that's something that sexy women wear that can make it fun to look for tickle spots). Here's what I like to think. Her breasts and her body in general became more sensitive making the tickling that much more intense, and let's say, early on those breasts got a workout.

Here's what I know. The area from the top of a woman's hips to her knees (front, back, side, the perspective doesn't matter) represent the most perfect shape in nature. For pregnant women, those curves take on...well, you want to get at them in any way you can, and there is nothing passive about a tickled woman. Here's what I think. Her knees, her thighs, the whole package are ever more sensitive, and the laughter is ever more musical.

Here's what I know. Psychologically, I could not tickle in any of the third trimesters. She didn't feel at all sexy. Her back, legs and feet hurt. I spent a great deal of time massaging. Sometimes she would sit sideways in a chair. I would wrap my left arm around her at the shoulders. I would then grind my right fist into her lower back and spine until my arm ached just trying to relieve some of the hurt she gathered day after day.

For roughly three months in every pregnancy, my poor fingers got no relief from the tickle pressure that built up in them. That's a lot of pressure. Then, usually around two or some weeks or so after each baby arrived, there was this one woman in my home that discovered just exactly what can happen when a poor husband has to relieve several months of tickle pressure. Oh, and this really lucky husband I know also got to discover what can happen when a woman starts to feel the tiniest bit sexy again. Wow!

The only thing I can say against tickling during a pregnancy is that her stomach muscles will become very extended near the end of the pregnancy. If you force her to laugh too hard due to tickling, she might actually feel pain. Gotta make sure that the tickling is administered in small doses. 🙂

Nothing too dramatic....it was my OB/GYN afterall, not my husband...LOL

I had suffered a slight diabetic stroke a few days before I went into labor, and as a result, I had some temporary weakness on my left side. My Dr. was keeping an eye on it, to make sure the damage did not become more permanent, and also to make sure I did not develop other forms of paralysis or injury. One of the tests Dr.'s must do when testing for paralysis, weakness, or numbness of any kind is run one of their tools or a pen along the bottom of your foot, to make sure it flexes in the right direction (if you have seen the movie "Days of Thunder", then you know what I am talking about).

Anyway, I was propped in my stirrups and ready to deliver when the time came. The Dr. wanted to make sure I had not suffered any lasting affects of the stroke, to ensure I would be physically capable of delivering. So he went to the foot of the bed, grabbed my left ankle, and ran the tip of his pen up the bottom of my foot. I yelped and tried to yank my foot away, but he held it in place. He grinned up at me and asked "Ticklish?". I nodded my head yes and shot him a warning look (I was in labor...everyone got warning looks from me...lol). He went over to my right foot, grabbed the ankle to hold it in place, and this time used his fingers instead of his pen to tickle up the bottom of my foot. This time I actually squealed and yelled at him...lol. He just snickered and said I appeared to be in fine shape to deliver, and winked as he left the room. What a brat!

Mimi, I had my first experience this past week with medical tickles. The neurologist used the little wheel tool on my foot. *No jokes about Jo's having a brain please* That was a nifty toy! I want one! Didn't know you had a kid...much less a very nifty story about a delivery tickle! 🙂

I recall when I was pregnant, that I was superticklish. All of my senses were in hyperdrive. They tell you to use Efflerage (if I'm spelling that right) during Lamaze to relax the mom. It's light little circle massage touches all over the back and shoulders. We did it during Lamaze class. After they peeled me off the ceiling, I was fine. Told the hub to use a firmer touch. LOL He grinned and said, "Sure." To use Mimi's word..."BRAT!" 🙂

Joby

Who passed on her ticklish gene to her kid. 🙂

Cool beans, Jobina! I never got the "wheel" treatment, and in retrospect, I'm pretty grateful I escaped that tool! LOL

Yeppers, I have a 6 year old daughter aka lee-in-making...LOL. She's gonna grow up to be JUST like me!

I remember that massage technique from Lamaze. It was real nice during the classes, but once actual labor came, I would have broke my husbands fingers if he came within 5 feet of me...*giggles*

You want one o' them nerve-wheels, Jo? I've a locale hereabouts where I can get one for ya. Even if I'm moved when you come out, I can leave it wit' Jan. I can mail it to ya, too. Suckers are tiny and fairly light. It would be a fine get-well gift, I figure. It'd bring ya hours of fun!

Tryin' to picture the volume you'd achieve durin' pregnancy is scary. I've yet to hear ANYTHIN' on my cell phone as loud as you were IN THE BACKGROUND. Knowin' Rocky as I do, now, there's no way he was roughin' ya up, but it SOUNDED like you were tryin' to break glass in two counties! 😉

Brat, indeed. He's just helpin', darlin'. 😀

Hey Bebe,
I'd LOVE one of those nervewheels. I'm sure you're familiar with 'em. I've no idea where to find one! I can think of a particular limey foot I'd like to use it on right now! 😛

Touche` on the pregnant laughter. I was louder than usual..lol. I reckon the only place worse than hearin' me tickled on your phone was when you were within inches of me causing the wailin'. Something about pressure increasing volume...lol..I have this whole theory I'm working on! Try my theory on the K-girl and see if it applies. :wow:

Ain't you an imp~!

Your Amazon beauty, 😉
Joby

ROFL! Ain't been called "imp" by an Amazon in ages.

Send me a mailin' address and I'll send ya a new toy!

And count on my continued exploration wit' that K-girl. We're quite the frequent flyers of late!

It's STILL all about the love, baby,
