I want to know from everyone else what you think about sending a message to someone and them not atleast acknowledging it by sending a receipt/conformation. Do you think that they...

(A) Don't read their messages.
(B) Are inconsiderate.
(C) Don't know how to use the forum controls.

(C) depends on how new they are and whether they'd even have access to the PM feature.

I think its more of (B) than (A). Because this topic is about rudeness, and rudeness is implied in the way you were addressed, I would choose that over the first option. (A), like (C) could means theres an error, and for whatever reason the messege did not get to them.

Where (A) and (C) cannot used as an excuse (and they'rd be no way of telling if they're dishonest about it), then (B) is the only real option I think. But then again, (B) is dependant on how they address you in the first place.

It should be obvious if they're being rude. Otherwise, its difficult and wrong to jump to conclusions about the other options. There have been instances where people say they've sent me PMs which I never recieved, and people that were wondering when and if I responded to PMs, when I did, and they supposedly didn't make it through to them.

Now, as for people that are ignoring you by not responding, I'm not sure if thats rude or not. First off, if they're harassing, trolling, or baiting you then its a given to not reply after a point or it's revealed what their intent is. Its rude when they stop the conversation and leave without saying so. Though that can have it's own set of circumstances (an emergency, no time to go on and explain why, their connection fails and they can't return, etc.)

But then theres people that feel that no reply is necessary. I mean, when do you end a conversation and who does it? You know? It sort of an unspoken, informal thing. One person either says goodbye or goodnight or whatever and the other doesn't reply again. Thats standard procedure, I believe.

If its a conversation they intend to carry on to the next day or next time, one should mention it and the other confirm it.

Also, people need to understand time zones and their affect on replies.

I'm not so much concerned over replies as I am conforming that the message was read by sending a receipt. I figure if they can't even do that much, they must be an arrogant snob.

Or, again, the possibility they don't understand what the receipt means. I didn't know at first. Its possible they don't either.

The message was most likely not read, or possibly the user's browser doesn't work with the receipt feature (for example, when using IE in a highly secure configuration). Also, we have been having a lot of weird board problems lately, so it's possible that some messages are not being delivered as expected.

If the person doesnt reply they arent given the "send receipt" popup so they may very well miss the button under the massage that asks if they want to send one.
Just a thought.

Or they may simply recieve no pop-up, or not have that setting set. Theres so many excuses or factors even for something as simple as "did they read it or not?!" LOL. ^^

I seldom acknowledge messages. I rarely require receipts anyway.
If they want to reply, they'll do. Sometimes, no reply is a reply in itself.

There is white.
There is black.
And then, there are hues of grey.

What if you have received a string of intensely rude, condescending e-mails from someone and just don't feel like justifying them with a response? (Not that this is the case, Keeper...) I just had it happen to me recently, one of several reasons I haven't been around much, and it really agitated/upset me...so I didn't feel a response was warranted/worth my time. But I dunno...honestly, some people don't know how to use the PMs yet, some don't want to deal with them and just don't use them, and some are just attemptng to ignore. Don't take it to heart babe...not worth it. Plenty of lees/lers in the sea...

If its a bunch of guys just PMin any female who reveals they are female and live within 760 miles of you and the message is "heh heh, hey we should meet up, what size are u feet, r u ticklish? Do you have a pic?" then i dont feel any sympathy for the sender and the people who send msgs like that have like 2 total posts since 19 aught 6

Christ, what happened to the basic art of romance, heh if\when i PM someone who is a female, im not that absurd, im a gentleman and try to charm the girl out of her shoes ::wink::

Hey, c'mon now! I like you so, please don't attempt to make me dislike you by making assumptions because when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me. I'm not talking about getting a reply. Just an acknowledgement. If I take the time to say something to someone, the least they can do is nod or make some kind of noise but, to pretend they didn't hear me strikes me as extreme arrogance on their part.

Yes, I did. For some reason, I took your post to mean that you sent one yesterday. I really, REALLY have to start thinking more(um...Within the perameters of strain, of course 😀)

Ms.Rabbit, the gift of speech and communication which you so elloquently use time and time again on this forum, I'm afraid is completely lost when you are dealing with a guy who's head is quite simply full of rocks. 😀
