Problems accessing pms

Slight problem I'm having with the site... whenever I try to access my inbox, or send anybody a pm, I'm told I don't have permission to access the page. Any idea what's wrong? Do you have to reach a certain post count or be a member of the site for a particular amount of time or something before you can send pms? Or could it have something to with multiple accounts? (I signed up with this account months ago and have only just decided to start posting properly, but previously I've used other accounts - but as far as I can remember I never posted or did anything with them; just for downloading clips and stuff from here)

Sorry if the answer is really obvious and can be found in the rules/faq or something, but I'm stuck. Thanks! 🙂
