Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter

This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

I just couldn't help but send this along. Too funny.

Newspaper headlines are the most extreme case of non-proofreading, since they are added long after the article has been written, while the articles are being arranged to fit the page. However, even books through real publishers apparently go through only spell checking and not proofreading. "At this point, Lieutenant Scott lost his never" has no mis-spelled words.

This is what happens when you lay off your skilled typesetters and replace them with unskilled or semi-skilled minimum- (or minimal-) wage earners as Rupert Murdoch did in England years ago. Even if the people hitting the keys aren't unskilled wage-slaves, a lot of people in the business seem to be just plain lazy. There is no excuse for glaring grammatical errors in a $35.00 hardcover book!

I actually work at a newspaper. There are so many errors (not just the headlines) that it's truly sad. The irony? We have more editors than we do writers. They all have a degree and apparently none of them have heard of proof-reading or spell check.

There's a school for this and you can get a degree but they still make that many errors! That is really sad and I would seriously consider firing some people;I hate to be the one to hurt somebody but that is unacceptable when I am paying you to make sure that doesn't happen! It was also the writers fault, they got lazy and didn't check there own work.
This is funny for a reader but it disgraces a company and I couldn't have it.

This is what happens when people rely on grammar and spell checkers on their PC's and they fail to teach grammar to the kids in the schools. My kids jaws drop when they see the mistakes that their classmates make (and how some of them either never get corrected!).

I find it comical that you bring this up, then screw up "proofreader" which is written as one word, and not two, then ruin an ellipsis which is "..." and not ".."

BTW, Rupert Murdoch is evil. Hate hate hate.

yeah but he isn't an editor or proofreader, these people are supposed to have a degree and do this as a job;then, they let this many errors pass them by.
Of course, something like this:Miners Refuse to Work after Death
is a writer's or journalist's fault

i just copied this from The Yellow Ardvark..have a problem, take it up with him..:stickout

Just passed a theater, on the sign was written "ninja assin", instead of ninja assasin the movie. This is tennessee though, spelling isn't our strongest area.

Actually, I've seen it written both ways in regular texts (not saying that both are correct, of course). I will differ to your correction. Too bad my old friend Laird isn't with us anymore. Back in my student days at the University of Iowa, he had been a professional proof reader of theses and such for many years before he retired. I bet he could have told us some great ones he found over the years in research papers and the like.

Maybe it's a porn: Ninja Assin'

Oh, and it's spelled assassin. 😉

Haha purple thanks, I spell so bad on my iPhone driving on the interstate.

shame on you, another ''on the phone driver''.Don't you know distractions cause accidents and painfully slow driving?

I was riding with my brother, not driving. My truck is a 5 speed and there's no way I could talk without my headset. I should get a proof reader.
