This is a good idea. I wasn't privy to the original thread, but I think it would also be interesting to discuss the setting for the story, or at least the sub-genre, which is for me essential before any writing takes place at all.
 
Personally, I think one of the golden rules for writing should be "Show, don't tell."

Basically, what this means is, instead of just telling the reader what's going on, show them by describing it as best as you can.
