PSA: Friends don't let friends eat Denny's

OK....as a PSA, I feel the need to share one of my very recent experiences. Me and a few of the boyz were on a road trip to see some old friends for a weekend. The weekend was great, but on the morning that we were returning home, I got out-voted and it was decided to go to Denny's for lunch. In retrospect, having four guys in one car, on a six hour road trip immediately after consuming several lumber jack slams was *not* a good idea. Needless to say, we didn't make it home sans stop. Methinks that Denny's definitely does quantity over quality. And while size might matter, bigger is not always better....

I never really liked Denny's that much. I actually like IHOP better.

And apparently in your case, Denny's isn't " a good place to sit and eat" like they say.

I hated the Denny's restaurants in California, more because of an entrenched problem with bad customer service than for the food per se. I hope that things have improved since those days, but there are no Denny's near here for me to try out 🙂

What is it with you and bad customer service in anything in California Val? 😛

Are you giving them a reason to give you bad service? Maybe you have a reputation of your own? 😛

"Waiter! I said overeasy!" *Val gets pissed and throws the plate at the waiter and then threatens the cook*

Damn Val......take it easy... :/

the hollywood brother like denny's for the fact they 24 hours but for good food, the international house of pancakes has the hollywood brother vote sucka

I've never been a fan of Denny's. Mainly because they don't make pancakes as well as I make em. I've yet to encounter any pancake place that makes pancakes anywhere remotely near as well as me. I've been to some places where their pancakes made me physically sick too. :/ I stick with my good ole secret recipe - Aunt Jemima's. That and fresh Canadian syrup made not a kilometer away from me.

Denny's

the Denny's in Akron is actually rather good! When I lived in California, it was so-so, but a regular hang-out. Here in Ohio, they actually seem to care about the food quality.

Meow!

the hollywood brother told the negative of dennys but the eggs are not too shabby. The hollywood brother likes the burgers and night time menu options. The only bad thing the hollywood brother do not like aobut dennys is no toast included in most breakfast eartery options for the hollywood brother

Interesting comment coming from you, in view of the fact that you have often complained about the moderation here.

My post about Denny's is the only one in which I mentioned a problem with customer service. I had said that Wal-Mart had a bad reputation for treating its employyes unfairly, but I cannot recall having discussed bad service outside of this thread.

Since the issue has been forced, I might as well put it all on the table. When I went to a number of Denny's and Coco's restaurants in the company of white co-workers, we often experienced unreasonable delays, had waiters who repeatedly "forgot" to take our orders, and were subjected to rude stares and remarks by restaurant employees who suggested that I was accompanying my co-workers for sexual purposes. Denny's parent company was later sued by African-Americans for pervasive racial discrimination, stemming from an incident involving black Secret Service employees in Washington DC who were denied service.

Here is a link from an Asian-American organisation about allegations of Denny's racism: http://www.asianam.org/updateon.htm

Here is a link about the Secret Service agents being denied service at Denny's: http://www.nathannewman.org/EDIN/.race/.racefile/.may-june/Discrimination3/sec-serv.txt.html

Now that I exposed a sensitive racial issue that I did not really want to mention, I hope that it is clear that my problem with Denny's was not a trivial matter or an issue of "personality."

Peace,

I can remember back when Denny's went by the original name of Sambo's. The food was barely adequate in Illinois back then. Only went to one 7-8 years ago back it was the only place open that day. Was OK, but they STILL seem to have problems convincing non-whites that they do not discriminate with their customers. Frankly, after the incident with the secret service, I was surprised that they kept getting enough business to stay open...

KY, it seems that bad press doesn't hurt the restaurant business much. I was surprised that Jack in the Box stayed in business after the E. Coli food poisoning scandal a few years ago. Not only did they not go broke, but the parent company (JBX: NYSE) has done extremely well since.

I like the Denny's here. I'm on a first name basis with several of the waitresses/waiters. And the food is really good.

Well, I'm glad to hear that some Denny's have decent food.

As for the Jack in the Box eColi scare....if there was a Jack in the Box beside a Wendy's......there's no way I'd eat in the Jack in the Box because of that episode years ago. I'm probably not alone....
