well i have firmware 5.50 on my 3000 and i try my best to not use 3rd party software on mine because i'm still patiently awaiting the GPS U.S. release.

Yeah the psp and the wii (with updated firmware that is) are pretty much in the same boat when it comes to modding it out. As tempted as I've been to getting all happy-hackie with it I'm just terrified of smashing up the firmware. These updates are designed to kinda act like a self destruct button when jacked with. You may have better luck rolling back to an older firmware and then trying it if you're able to do it at this point. If not, you may be able to find someone or a company you can mail it to to redo the firmware.
