It was good. Darker than "Interveiw with a Vampire", but "Interveiw" was alot better.

Amen.............the reason I want to see this movie so bad is that the first one kinda put black poeple in a bad light, but now that you know who (God Bless her) is the QUEEN well......................now maybe things will pickup

I read the entire series, and then some. Body Thief was my second favorite of the series (Interview being the first). Queen of the damned was an excellent read too.

did the movie version hold up to the book? was it a ‘made for TV’ thing or will it be out on video too? Anne Rice is among my favorite authors. I can only think of two of her books that didn’t completely take me away. Violin and the one about the castrated singers (Choir of ‘something’... ).

I guess I wasnt specific enough I was refering to the combination book and movie the book Louie described the Africans as cruel and savage, and I guess the movie just echoed it for me......................or I could just be overly sensitive

Ayla (and anyone else interested, really), have you read 'Armand' yet? What did you think about Rice undoing his remarkable death from 'Memnoch'? In spite of how much I love the character (remember his fascination with the modern world in 'Queen?' ), that death is one of my favorite moments in the entire series, and I remember being so disappointed that Rice seemed to slowly be turning these characters into invincible superheroes by bringing them back from the ... um ... dead.

Scot, I have not read Armand yet. I really enjoy the way she delves into each of her characters lives but I think she is at her best when she stays out of the modern world. ‘Lestat’ was an excellent book but she very nearly lost me when she had him rise from the dead (lol having the same trouble with that phrase that you did) and try his hand at being a rock star and also when (can’t remember which book this is from) Armand had a group of them living in modern Miami. she is at her best when writing in the setting of 18th century New Orleans or, as in ‘Pandora’ (one of my favorites), the Italian Renaissance. her descriptions are so vivid.

have you read any of her other works? I am having trouble remembering titles (past my bedtime) right now but a few were really very good. I haven’t read any of her eroticisms and really think I should. knowing her romantic, descriptive writing style... I have no doubt I would enjoy them.

Nope

I could care less about the movie, but I want the soundtrack. 😎

I, too, have read just about everything she has put out in print, and am in agreement about her better works being those where she is writing about more historic time periods. I really liked her "Mummy or Ramses the Damned" book, having gained an early fascination with the time periods in question, and she drew me right in. I always took the way she signed off on that one as a sign that a sequel would be forthcoming.. after 10 years of waiting and checking the shelves, I assume I was mistaken..

I think I will amend what I said before. I will agree that the period works are better for the Vampire series, but have to say that I am more interested in the Mayfair witches series, especially once she found a way to link their world with that of the vampires. The majority of that is written in present day and very well written at that.

Cry to heaven was not one of her better works, but then I have not found too many that are not of a "supernatural" topic to be anywhere near as enjoyable to read. And the ones that were (Exit to Eden) were turned into a comedy starring Rosie Odonnell.. I mean really!

Okay, i have nothing more to contribute (unless anyone here wants to talk about the movie Red Violin) I haven't bothered to check out who actually did have anything to do with it, but it definitely smacked a little of her style.. Maybe that's why I loved it so much..
