question about icons

just out of curiousity, what do the icons mean? (the ones inside the discussion section, specifically.) i can't figure out what the envelopes in the first column mean, or what the yellow signs with the puncuation mean. thankyou.

Meaning absolutely no offense, I direct your attention to the bottom of the Discussion area. Many of these are defined therein. The rest are "Message Icons, and have no official meaning here, that I've been told.

d'oh! alright, so not that wasn't my smartest question. my teachers always said that the dumbest question is the one you don't ask. i still feel kind of silly, though. thanks.

Your teacher was right!

It's true, the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. No need to feel stupid. When I first stumbled upon the wide world of chatrooms, i actually asked people what the 'strange symbols' meant (you know, "🙂"), and was totally clueless about "lol", "rofl" etc. If I hadn't asked, the wealth of smilies and acronyms would have been forever closed to me... So now, after having a laugh at my past naive stupidity, feel free to ask just about anything! 😀
