Question about Professor Moriarty

Did Holmes & Moriarty ever work together to deal with a common foe? Sometimes that happens, even in real life. Like Al Capon an Eilat Ness who once worked together in pursuit of a child killer... mind you Capon almost killed the wrong so there you go.

And my question isn't limited to the original stories, they could be contemporary reinventing of the Worlds Greatest Detective.

That depends, which version of Sherlock Holmes are we talking about?

There have been dozens of spin offs ranging from movies to television shows to other actual book lines.

Not in anything by Arthur Conan Doyle. But I'm sure someone, somewhere, has written a story where they team up.

Of course, seeing as Moriarty is just as smart as Holmes, and has a great deal more resources and less moral hangups, I can't imagine why he'd ever need Holme's help.

With Conan Doyle's objective to simply kill Sherlock Holmes for good by injecting Moriarty in the scenes when he can't go on doing the stories any further, definitely NOT... Hope I am not wrong.

Moriarty as a character is actually very much more fluffed up by the newer remakes/versions of Sherlock. He really only appeared in one, maybe two, stories, he wasn't like The Joker or anything. Same with Irene Adler.

Although, it has happened, I believe. There was an episode of Elementary, the ABC modern remake with John Michael Hill and Lucy Liu, where Sherlock ended up working with Moriarty...who was also Irene Adler, but under a fake name or something like that (Moriarty was a pen name, I think?) to find a missing child that ended up being her daughter? I think? I don't watch the show much but I remember an episode to that effect.
