Question For Artists (No Pics - Sorry!)

Lately I've been drawing a lot of tickling pictures freehand (ye olde pencil and paper). I have also been quite pleased with the overall look of the pictures.

But the strange thing is that they don't actually do much for me. Usually, tickling pictures do get me pretty aroused, especially ones of familiar anime characters, but when I draw them myself, they don't seem to have that quality. Does anybody else feel this way about their own drawings, or is it just me? And can anybody explain why?

P.S. I would love to post my pictures on this forum, but I don't have a scanner. :sigh:

I can't say I get aroused by them. (Because I'm too busy posting my own) But you might not be getting aroused because it's your art. There's just something about another person's work that draws your attention. Something that you don't see in your own work. It's like visiting another city. It's enchanting and exciting, while your hometown is stale and boring.

Plus you know it by heart, and you tend to see the technique over the picture - not unlike the tree vs forest syndrome.

I feel your pain

I feel your pain, both as a scannerless artist, and as a tickle-picture-drawing-artist. I often draw things that don't arouse me, but that just makes me think its not all that good, but on the other hand, from time to time, I draw some things that make me get stiff as a plank and I nfeel the greatest amount of pride mixed with a great deal of arousal. U have to snag inspiration from fantasies, porn, or just other people work. To me, this is the best cure for artists block.

Pardon the following shameless answer:

I do get aroused by my own artwork. Any tickling pics I do are usually the product of some overly cute/sexy idea I get stuck in my head and I just HAVE TO DRAW IT. In fact, I usually don't draw tickling pics unless i'm aroused at the time.

However, as artists, we tend to be overly critical of our works. One reason why you may not be getting aroused by your own artwork is simply because it's done by you.

I would go into more detail but my mind is a bit fuzzy from the damn sinus medication i just took.

It is possible that a part of you feels guilty for putting your favorite characters into these situations they'd never really be in. Artists have a way of getting in too deep sometimes, going to the point where they feel they're shaming the characters as if they were real people.

When another artist draws it however, it may seem easier to accept because you're not the one drawing it.

For example, its like realizing in reality that you'd never tickle someone against their will and you find that wrong somehow, but in a fantasy someone else creates for you, you don't mind it. Its that kind of reasoning that may subconciously influence how a person feels about the characters they draw, whether they are their own or not.

If theres a part of you that feels protective of the characters because you like them so much, then that explains some of it. You may feel like you're overinduldging and taking the characters to a place where they become just another tickle victim.

Artists can get really attached, and at the end of the day, they want whats best for their characters, regardless of where it took them emotionally or where their minds wandered.

As a writer I have experienced the same phenomenon as most of the artists describe here. Even though I only write when I am aroused, and I write about scenarios which are exciting to me, I don't usually get turned on when re-reading my own stories. I do, however, find other authors' material to be highly arousing, and I keep a folder of my favourite stories for that express purpose 🙂

Thanks everyone - some really good answers here!

I guess it's not unusual - that's one thing. 🙂 I think, looking at the responses above, that it's a bit of each, actually. When I was reading them, I thought "yeah, that could be it", but going back, I thought that about practically every reply. 😛

Thanks again!

No problem. I'm sure we all have thoughts along those lines at some juncture and want to know what others think just so we can rule out the possibility that we aren't losing our sanity or something. LOL 😛

I'm not particularly talented, but I know what you mean, my pictures dont seem to do anything for me, apart from right at the start when they start to come together...

I've drawn probably 1 out of 20 drawings that aroused me after the fact. I can't guess how many drawings I've made in my life, because I liquidated the majority out of shame, but I'm guessing thousands. I think that, since I'm aroused when I'm drawing, I'm just trying to make my thoughts concrete, and the process arouses me whether I do a good job or not. But somewhere along the line I started looking back at pictures I'd done before and trying to improve them. Gradually I picked up a style that drives me crazy, though I still draw a lot that doesn't do it. I think proportion is a big part of it. I would draw some part of a girl wonderfully, and then try to guess what the rest should be like, or draw the 'lee perfectly and not be sure where to put the 'ler. I guess I got better with practice, and with photos. I suppose I'm also unusual in that I'm seldom a character in my own fantasies. Strongly reduces my chances of ever living them out.

An interesting aside- caffeine gets me uncontrollable, and gives me stamina. I tend to spend hours drawing when I've had a lot of caffeine, and I tend to take more time on my drawings.

Caffiene you way? Will have to try that out! I really want to get drawing some more and improve myself, but I've really got to be in the right mood to do it...

Caffeine does it to me big time. To the point that, last semester, when I lived alone, I stayed up all night drawing a couple of times when I actually had work to do. I pulled through though. Heh heh. Pulled.
Seriously, I have to be careful with the stuff.

Are those pictures really you? That's looking pretty professional.

Personally, I feel this way and thats why I don't put my characters (ones i create) into these situations, but rather make up characters from models online or something other. I keep my other charis seperate, and I do tickle other peoples characters becsase I don't feel a real connection to them.

Good to see someone understands what I mean. I did say that because I am that way, somewhat. Even characters that aren't mine, there are just some things I won't do with them.

when it comes to tickling pics, the only ones I draw that are....a bit X-rated are of my own characters; probably because if I see that character again, on tv or something, I'll have that image that I created in my head. Like once, I read a very adult alice in Wonderland tickle story and the day after the movie (from disney) came on and I just couldn't watch it. That's my logic, wierd as it is...

*bump*

Interesting question...

I'd say that for me it's yes and no. More like a...sometimes. Usually stuff I draw that brings naughty feelings to the surface are just quick sketches that I never end up posting (or saving even). The main reason for this is that once I feel that way I don't want to draw anymore. =P

guilty as well, its mostly a psych thing, you do the work so by time your done its much as you imagined it, so its....expected I guess you could say. When someone else dose the pic you get to see it, bang there it is. It makes sence...well least to me, but hopefully you get it.
