Question For MAC Users

I was wondering if anyone knows of a .WMV file to .MPEG file converter program for the macintosh. Or, does anyone have a good Windows Media Player that can play newer .wmv files smoothly? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

WMP for Mac

I think you will find that .WMV files are non-convertable, much like .RM files (the equally poor 'RealPlayer').

Are you using the latest version of Windows Media Player (for Mac)?. It should be v 7.1.2, if yours is an earlier version I suggest you obtain the latest from the MS site (www.microsoft.com).

To check which version you have open Sherlock & type into the search box, windows media player. Then highlight the application program icon in the results list & go to 'file', 'get info', 'general info', (or shortcut by pressing the Apple & i keys together).

Yeah, I got the newest version of WMP. Which player do you use for WMV files? Probably WMP, but I just wanted to make sure. I have the first-generation iMac so that could have something to do with. However, Quicktime files run fine.

Windows Mediocre Video

There are no conversion utilites. I am using the latest WMP player on a G4 933 and about half the wmv files i download stop halfway through. This is a microsoft issue, not a mac issue. Their codecs and player are not uniform. Quicktime on the otherhand will play flawlessly. The exception being AVI files which are not uniform in regard to codecs. for AVI help on the mac Divx.com has released an alpha of their validator which will help the audio on some avis.


with quicktime 6 out, we can only hope that most files will move to mp4. which is an amazing file format that plays great on all machines with no muss or fuss.
