My hubby has been so sweet as to grow his nails just a little bit past his fingertips so that he can make his tickling all the more "effective". :blush In fact, we've discovered that when he grows his nails out just that tiny bit, he can reduce me to squeals, silent laughter and hysterical giggling almost instantaneously. :roflmao: His favorite scenario (so he tells me) is when he is the cause of my immediate instinctively-near-panic reaction due to something tickling soooo overwhelmingly.) Suffice to say, his nails pretty much guarantee such a reaction from me. :blush :blush :blush :blush :blush.

Which brings me to my question for the make Ler's out there:

People sometimes ask my husband why he grows his nails out that tiny bit. He always tells them it's because he hasn't gotten around to taking care of it. But both he and I would like to think of a better answer. Any ideas?

I usually use basically that same excuse. I tell people, "I know, I need to cut them" or something like that. But that's actually the reason... I don't grow them out because of tickling, although I know it can be effective... I usually just haven't hunted down my nail clippers yet.. 😛

i never grow my nails, mostly because of my habit of biting them off an i tend to hate them when they grow out. i've grown out my nails ones when i had braces and still was trimming them. I guess i don't like having nails grow lol.

lol... This is an awesome question! Fun to find out someone else has wondered how to deal with this issue.

I'm not with anyone at the moment, and so have no reason to grow them out for the purposes of tickling. However, my love for tickling is always there, and even though there are times when there is no one to carry out my desires on/with, I still daydream and fantasize about being able to. And so... I have grown out my nails before, simply wishing I had someone to use them on, and maybe even hoping someone would come along so I could. Like you said, nails are very effective! And as a lee as well, even though it doesn't compare to someone else tickling you, your own nails still feel nice on the bottoms of your feet. Yes, I'm admitting I have done that.

There are things you do in everyday life where your hands are quite visible and impossible to hide. For instance, what immediately came to mind when I read your post, was those times when I've grown my nails and gone through the drive thru. You have to give cash or a card to the cashier at the window, and there's no way to avoid your hand being front and center in that transaction. My best method for hiding my nails was to hold my money/card between the knuckles of my index and middle finger which were further curled around my thumb. Maybe this technique has allowed my 'secret' to go unnoticed... I don't know. But I don't remember anyone having a sudden, tell-tale look on their face denoting they just saw something shocking and alarming. And usually it's younger people taking your money in the drive thru, who are potentially less able to hide their reactions than an older person.

But to your question... I never did come up with an answer that I thought would perfectly satisfy someone. However, the one possible, albeit weak, reason that I thought might suffice, was that I lost a bet. Maybe, I thought, an unusual answer would cancel out an unusual circumstance. Thankfully though, I've never been asked.

I've actually never even thought of this before. I'm now going to be on the lookout for guys with longer nails. haha

Heh.. My nails are so short I can barely open a pop can.

Now that you pointed that out, I guess It's time to break my nasty nail-biting habit.

Well.. Time to go buy a shock collar. Or wear fake nails for a week so I break my teeth whenever I try to bite them... And get called a girl..

...

Can anyone think of a less painful way to break this habit?

My nails often surpass my fingertips by a millimetre or two and I just leave them like that. Never really too long, and even then; Nobody comments on it. Maybe because I'm a more delicate kinda guy and that somehow makes sense for my nails to be longer than usual or perhaps simply people don't notice.

However, whenever my nails get long because I grow them out for guitar playing purposes; That would be exactly what I'd tell people if they asked.

So you remember when I said I would stop biting my nails?

I was honestly only about 45% serious, but I guess my subconscious took it WAAAY more seriously than that. I haven't bitten my nails in the past week. Now they're even starting to make that clicky noise when I tap them on the desk.

So thanks for making this post. It inexplicably, and completely randomly made me break a lifelong bad habit.

I grow my nails out because I don't like the feeling of things touching the area that my nails usually cover. But I also do craft projects and sculpt, so they make for good tools some times. It's handier to have them than not.
Although no one has ever asked me why I do have long nails.

LOL! That is so funny, Cryptic7! :lol I'm glad it helped! (But I promise the one who'll be the happiest about it will be whatever lucky Lee winds up in your new more-tickly fingers! 😉 )

Also an easy one for me: my nails naturally grow freakishly fast. No matter what I do, they're always long enough. Very reliable weapons. xD

i like to look dark and mysterious. If someone ask me why i let my nails grow, i just answer the same: "you wouldn't like to know the answer :devil2: " (?) The bad thing is i play the piano... and sometimes i have to cut my nails beacuse they don't let me play well 🙁

Well I suppose being a musician with strong flexible hands would definitely make up for whatever you lack with nails! LOL!😉

I had a friend who grew his pinky nail long cause he used it to scoop up coke and snort it. I doubt you would want to use this as a reason though.

I seem to be in the minority here - if I'm planning to do any prolonged tickling, I cut and file my nails down. If they're long, I seem to cut and scratch more than I tickle (something I also don't like as a lee). I find if mine are short and stubby, they're softer and glide more easily over the skin.

Yeeees!!!!!!... I only wish i had somebody to use my nails and my "musician finger" with her :cry

Don't fret! With an attitude like your signature quote, I promise you there are many a ticklish Lee who would love your playful "abilities"! LOL!:lol

I would probably just say, I haven't gotten around to cutting them yet lol. I could also say, it makes scratching itches more effective (just like it makes tickling more effective) haha!!

Im really not asked all that much about em, however when i do get asked, ill say something like i drink alot of milk, and i have healthy nails, so they just grow fast. Which is actually mostly true. Ive cut back on cow juice in my elder years.
