What kind of gear have you got.

I have the following.

Guitars: Squire Telecaster with modified electonics; Ibanez RG 470; Takamine classical accoustic.

Amps and Effects: Digitech RP-10 (needs new power supply though); Behringer V-Amp; '74 Music Man amp

Bass: Wasburn XB-100

Recording: Digidesign Digi001 and a butt load of mics

Drums: Pearl ( I have no idea what kind, I got it for my wife)

Fender mexican standard, old-ass classical acoustic, Roland Digital drum kit (the new shiny red one), Ibanez bass, Schecter m.33 guitar. Roland electric keyboard. No talent. 😉

I have a triple-board synthesizer rack affectionatly named Cerberus. I have a Korg Trinity, a Korg DW-8000 and an ancient Roland Juno-6 (all analog, no memory...but great fat sounds.) I also use Oberheim and Yamaha tone generators for Midi patching without having to add more boards.

Guitar-wise, I have a Fender Avalon acoustic (the one with the Strat headstock) and an Aria Pro II LP style with a translucent blue stain and gold hardware. The neck just broke on my old Washburn Lyon. My bass is a Fender Jazz, which I always wind up going back to, no matter what else I've tried.

Guitar amp is a Marshall JCM-900 with two 4-10 cabinets. Bass amp is Trace Elliot. As far as amplifying the keyboards, I generally run them straight to the board as it's a clean digital signal and saves stage space.

Vocally, I've been using a Samson headset lately that I really like. It really frees you up when you're trying to play keys, switch to guitar and need to be all over the place.

I use a Yamaha AW4418 16 track recorder, a vintage set of Ludwig drums that sound gorgeous, a beautiful Yamaha acoustic and a Fender Telecaster, an old Farfisa organ, and the voice of Nontkl!!!(lol!)

Mine

I have a Tama Rockstar Drumset. Includes high quality cymbals baby!! 😀

I have Rickenbacker 4003, and a Fender P-bass.
Have a Fender amp as well...

Rule number one about doing gigs.

Never, ever ask the guitarist about his gear! they are worse than train spotters, I have had more fun off work with dihorrea than listening to guitar players droning on about their precious black boxes. They in turn are stunned to find that in response their questions about my keyboard (Roland RD 500) I freely admit that there are many buttons on it about which I have not the faintist idea as to their function!

Roland V-Drums (the V-Pro model, with the TDW-1 Wave and Expansion Board and KD-120 kick trigger), Gibraltar Intruder II Double Pedals, Roland KC-300 amplifier, Tascam PortaStudio MK414, Pearl World Series custom drumkit (circa 1988), Evans Drumheads, JohnnyRabb drumsticks, Zildjian cymbals, Drum Workshop hi-hat drop clutch.

The Rhythm Doctor

Rule number two

The amount of shiny new gear that drummers have is in inverse proportion to their abillity to keep time.

rythm doctor, me thinks you and I are talking about the same kit 😀
Roland TW-1, shiny and red. I love the hell outta that thing. And, Red Indian, I'll be honest with ya, I play my shitty acoustic way more than my electric, so there's that much less gear to drone on about 😉

You know red, I've know keyboardist just as anal about their gear. I even know guys who can decipher the midi bit stream. They know what each of the 8 bits in a midi word mean.

BTW: my little box is blue, not black.

Boston Tea Party

I also play a lot of percussion, Tympani and other tuned stuff and I play kit, but you guys would howl with laughter at my gear, I reckon some of it dates back to the American war of independance! I recently called at my local drum store for a new set of heads (evans cad cam, for the train spotters amongst you) and I slapped the old ones on the counter and the guy looked them over like they were the dead sea scrolls! he asked when I last changed them and I said never, then he asked me how long I had had the kit? to wich I replied I bought them second hand 30 years ago. At this point the guy burst in to uncontrollable laughter and had to hold himself up on the counter to stop from falling on the floor. Some people laugh at the strangest things dont you think?

Hey! What's wrong with knowing what a Midi bit-stream is?

Ever try playing orchestrated stuff with only two hands without it?😀

Hey! Knowin' your MIDI data is important...

Jeez, most of my synths are either software constructs or old gear. I've some Kawaii gear (K1, k1-m, K4), a Casio FZ-1 sampler ('cause I hadda have 8 loop points), a Yamaha TX81z, and a lot of Mac and PC software that works as a synth or sampler. I FrankenSynth old computers all the time, now. It's fun.

Oddly, I still prefer orchestrating for a symphony, and I *hate* synths for symphony. Alas.

Dave2112, I miss my Juno. 🙁

I don't get to do any writin' until January, though. Patiently waitin' for that valuable commodity known as time. I prefer havin' money t'travel. I miss giggin', and all, but it's great not to get excited about Ramen with a bag of frozen peas poured into it.

I'm not talking about learning how to work midi. I'm talking about taking about the midi word (ex. 10110101) and telling you what each individual 1 and 0 means. Like witch bit means a patch or bank change, which one is a system exclusive, or aftertouch, ect. ect.

I had to learn that in school (Full Sail's Recording Arts program) and the bit stream is freaking confusing. That was the only test I failed.

no guitars here

No guitars here unless you count that one my dad made back in 1960. It's cool man....and sounds great!! I don't know how to play anything other a few notes of Ghost Riders in the Sky that he taught me when I was ten years old. `😉 I also have a 15 year old Yamaha keyboard that was just awesome when MIDI wasn't a commonly accepty "word." It weighs in at about 3.63 tons and that is without the stand or case. hehe

Now, if you weren't just talking about the folks who use electricity to help make music....I have a Muramatsu-DNB flute, French prof model. It's sweet. D#roller and a Bfoot all silver. Sounds like breezes from the heavens when ya play it!Who says only guitarists can drone on and one.

Triangle...

It's kinda silver, except for the spot I usually hit it...sorta black there...made in China, and I broke the original stick, so I tend to use whatever is handy to whap it when needed. 😉 Q

I passed wit' a B, but that was over a decade ago, brother. SJSU, under Allen Strange and Dan Wyman. Whee. They recently changed the program to call it (I kid you not) CREAM. Glad I graduated before that, though that's a story in inself, and one I'll spare all. Great classes on synthesis and studio recordin', still. The name squicks me, though. Like the music dept. needed more encouragement t'be seen as a bunch o' sex fiends.

Needless t'note, though, I *WAS* talkin' bout the individual bits and bytes, brother. No way t'guess that, and no worries regardless. I just wasn't about t'geek MIDI until encouraged. 😉 I miss messin' wit' my gear for a livin'. Did a software gig from 99 through 2000 testin' software at a company doin' a software synth. Never got released, and they got consumed by a larger PC vendor, as a software synth, but I still have the software, and can do some phenominal stuff with it, when I'm feelin' particularly warped. Fun stuff. Don't pay well, but it's fun!

Thankfully, a pal o' mine at Digidesign still keeps me geeked for the digital audio stuff, and his studio is callin' me. Maybe after the holidays, assumin' there's anythin' I wanna record that ain't MIDI.

Hey, does you buddy happen to know when they're gonna come out with the TDM system for PC? Last I heard, they were waiting for WindowsXP.

He'd never tell ME, that's for sure. Digidesign has been really focused on not being prematurely scooped of late (last few years, anyway). When they do, though, you'll hear. They'll blow that horn loudly.
