Questions for Mac users

Hi; I would like to ask two basic questions about Macs. First, can a Mac read a document that is posted in a Windows format, such as a Word Pad document (.doc)? Secondly, can a Mac read removable media from Windows, such as CD-R's and 3.5" floppy disks? I have zero experience with Macs (obviously) but I am curious about them.

Thanks,

There's a utility called MacLink that lets you translate PC files (.doc et al) into their Mac equivalents, and the other way around. I believe it's a standard part of the operating system now -- I recently upgraded to OS X and it included MacLink. There are also, I understand, various software applications that can be used to read PC media with a Mac, but I can't say I've done much experimenting in that line; the easiest way, I've found, is to use a zip disk, which can be read by any system.
