I know what you mean
Rachel Stevens has always, to me anyway, had an attitude.
Story for you (my perception)
In her SClub7 days the band appeared as guests on a children's Saturday morning Disney backed program hosted by two lively studio presenters with in-studio games and disney cartoons.
When they were early in their run of 'Tarzan' cartoons (personal note: many blokes had a thing for Jessica Rabbit? I preferred Jane. Cute English accent and bare feet....OMG! I'm lusting after a cartoon! Sorry. Never mind. Back to the story) the presenters held a 'get your socks off for Tarzan' competition.
The aim was for children around the UK to draw round their feet and send the cut outs into the studio. If, joined up end to end, all the paper feet reached a certain distance, money would go to charity.
Needless to say, the two presenters encouraged any studio guests to do the same as a way of encouraging the nationwide TV audience. During the SClub7 day, the band are sat around whilst the very enthusiastic girl presenter said, "SClub7 will be performing live in the studio, and maybe later we can persuade them to 'get their socks off for Tarzan'.
The look Rachel Stevens fired at the girl was one of, "what? How banal! That's totally beneath me! How dare you even suggest it, etc etc".
Now, this is only my personal opinion of her gaze, but it was done with such sudden-ness and venom, live on national television, that I couldn't help but think "oh, nice one, Rachel- go ahead and demean the entire charity campaign, because any clued up children watching her face at that moment would know that she wasn't about to join in".
In my opinion Children like to think people around them are supportive of the things they do, and as the campaign was going really well (they more than met their target eventually) , something in me just doesn't like a celebrity who can shatter a child's enthusiasm with a steely glare.
