Racism is still alive and well....

I was watching the local news before work this morning, and they had a story about a black gentleman who went into a bar to get a beer after work. When the man sat at the counter and requested a beer, the bartender informed him that the man would get nothing unless he went to a dirtier area of the bar because he was black

I know we've had discussions on this forum about race several times, (Almost as much as Star Wars) but when will this end? It boggles my mind that people think they can get away with treating others as second-class citizens for stupid reasons like race, gender, or religious beliefs.

It's really simple. Racism will never end. I can't believe that some of you people think we can stop it. Im not trying to be ignorant, just realistic. Do not be hopeless dreamers.

It may not end, but we have to *hope* it will. If we don't have anything to aim for, what's the point? It would be like saying 'stop most murders'. You'll never stop them all but you have to try. Aiming for distant goals is better than admitting defeat.

So, you also pull wisdom from all sources, Dave...lol? As for racism, it may never entirely disappear, but it seems that NOT to try is to admit defeat, and we're too stubborn a species to do that! I just take people one at a time and learn to hate 'em/like 'em that way...individually. More time consuming and requires expenditure of energy/brainpower, which is why some people just lump groups together in the first place...it's simple and easy to do, and requires little to no thought to listen to someone else tell them what the world is like and how they should react to it. Q

An isolated incident would be one thing. Much more alarming is when one is given to the impression that there is a great number of people that believe in the inferiority of a certain race- a racist culture. On a positive note, it's nice to see racism being discussed. I think that's a good thing.

Hatred far exceeds racism...

Don't be fooled into looking at this in terms of "racism." I believe some people just want to hate. Yes, they use things like sexual orientation, race, skin color, religion, etc. to justify it, but hatred is hatred, pure and simple. Biggles has it right on the mark, too. An asshole is an asshole, black, white, or arabian. Atta was an asshole, from what the people who knew him before he masterminded Sept. 11th said. Osama bin Laden is an asshole, as a National Geographic reporter found out when he went cover the war in Afganistan against the russians. This tall guy threatened to kill him, and he later discovered the tall man was Osama bin Laden himself. Hitler was an asshole, if you read any German history. Most racists are assholes. I live in the south, and TRUST ME, if they weren't any black people around, they would FIND somebody to hate!

It's quite true that there are those out there who are just looking fo something to hate, something to direct their anger at. Maybe what's truly pissing them off is something that cannot be changed, or maybe it's something that they are afraid to confront. That's why the KKK and gangs are so popular, because then they can join with like-minded people and assault what is angering them in pathetic 20-1 attacks.
