I have a serious question, I don't know what got me thinking about it. But when I was little, like 8 or 9, calling a black person "coloured" was the politically correct way to do it. But suddenly, one day, it was designated racist and just "black" became the politically correct way to say it.
What I'm curious about is this: do you find being called "coloured" offensive? If so, did you always find it offensive? And if not, do you think the 'designation' of it and other terms as racist is a good representation of the black community's attitudes, or are you yourselves under the impression that it's uncalled for?
Note, I know this applies to every race with different words (I can't count how many times I've been called a sheep-shagger), but this particular word was the example that prompted me to ask the question out loud.
(On a slightly unrelated note, does anybody remember the Robinsons Jam mascot, Golliwog? His banning seemed a bit uncalled for in my eyes, as he wasn't racist, he was just black)
