I was enjoying one of the threads in the vidclip section (this one: http://www.tickletheater.com/showthread.php?t=25547), mostly because it's nice to see some real tickling for a change, and some of the stuff made me think about the difference between amateur ticklers (them) and pros (us), and I think the main difference is that NORMAL people

(a) never get their victim really helpless enough, and

(b) always stop way the hell too soon!

I think that's one way we can recognize a fellow ticklephile. And you don't see it that often, do you? At least not in public. It made me ponder some questions.

(1) How often have you seen someone (in everyday life) tickle someone in a way that you KNEW he had a tickle fetish? Like a guy I knew in school as a kid, he'd get his victims in the classic SCHOOLBOY PIN (do a web search, you'll find pictures) then get nice and comfy and proceed to tickle you nearly to death. Okay, no question there. He was a tickle freak. (I actually heard, years later, that he was supposed to have a secret spot in the woods where he'd tie kids up and tickle torture them. I couldn't say for sure). And we all have the notorious TICKLING UNCLE, but did you ever have one who seemed a little TOO into it?

(2) If you're a true tickler yourself, can you really keep it a secret? Isn't it bound to become obvious after a while? During my most active tickling period (high school and college) every girl I went out with sooner or later found herself completely helpless (wasn't hard, I was a wrestling champ) and tickled within an inch of her life. One night I was about to go to work on a new victim and as my fingers approached her ribs she rolled her eyes and said "Oh man, here it COMES!" like she'd been expecting it! What had her girl friends been telling her about me? You know how women tell each other everything!

Which brings me to:

(3) How many average, normal women and girls (not people interested in or even aware of fetishes) have been victims of tickle freaks in their life? I don't mean playful boyfriend tickling, every girl gets that, I mean OUR kind of merciless tickling? My guess is more than you'd think, probably even MOST. It would make an interesting survey sometime.

Oh come on. You don't even have to be a ticklephile to love to tickle someone. It's one of the most common ways of flirting, and you see it everywhere. I dunno about well, bondage or anything, but I've definately seen guys pin their girlfriends down and tickle them till they were tearing, maybe even near death. :happy:

In my opinion in kind of has to do with how tickling is accepted in different societies. In one place, tickling may be a bit more normal or common then some other place. I've heard many people say that where they live is very tickle dry, and in other places you just see it all the time.

As someone who's been tickled within an inch of my life by several women, often women that I wasn't even dating, it's been my experience that some people who do that do come across as (semi?)closeted ticklephiles, while others are simply enjoying tickling and using it as a means to an end. Now that I think about it, it strikes me that the women who remember my ticklishness long-term and exploit it frequently over that long term are the ones who most seem like ticklephiles; the others either tickle me repeatedly over a short period of time and then totally forget that I'm ticklish, because that's not important to them, or they tickle me only intermittently over the length of our acquaintance, because they remember that I'm ticklish but don't particularly care or dwell on it. The ones who remember it AND dwell on it... they're the ones I suspect of haboring it as an ardent hobby.

Actually, if you LOVE to tickle then you ARE a ticklephile. That's what the word means. And if I saw a guy tickle his girlfriend "maybe even near death", I'd be pretty sure he had the Fetish. That was the point I was making.
