Ok, here's the thing about rap music and why I think it's so popular...

Unlike all the other forms of music, it requires no training (formal or otherwise). You don't have to be gifted or talented to be able to do it. I'm sure theres going to people out there who are going to disagree, but that's why I'm posting...

and then there's the rhythmical receptiveness of it. Most people I think, generally enjoy something that is familiar and predictable.

Your thoughts?

You may now return to you're regularly scheduled program... :lol

You're right about the familiar and predictable, its basically why pop songs are way more popular than some other types os music that take way more talent to perform.

In terms of talent in rap i generally agree but some raps are very enjoyable and it takes some skill.

Then there is this http://www. youtube.com/watch?v=HmJbJs-9ST0 which is well... ^^

Rap must be a viable form of music.... Ke$ha actually proved it's possible to rap off-key. If it's possible to do it THAT wrong, there must be a way to do it right then.

Nickleback blows and therefore rock music is shit. My logic is flawless.

It's simple, the kind of Rap you're talking about, Party Rap, which includes artists like LMFAO and Lil Wayne, requires no skill or talent, just stupid lyrics and autotune.
But, some Underground Rap is very good, I like Tech N9ne and Nas personally, but hey, everyone can like what they like.

...so would you be willing to go on record as saying that there are no talented rappers?

I can name a few off the top of my head:

Tech N9ne
Immortal Technique
Twista
Nas
Jay-Z
Aesop Rock
