We'll miss ya Steve.

Well, except for the time you whined to Obama about how teachers in public schools should be rated (and possibly fired) due to their student's performance.

Not to spark an argument out of this, but what else do we have to go on to determine the effectiveness of a teacher?

I realize that not all kids learn well, regardless of the teacher, but there's no other numerical value we can really use to determine if the teacher is worth their salt.

Nowadays it isn't so much the students LEARNING well as the students WANTING to learn PERIOD and the PARENTS WILLING to sit down and help their children with their homework or just plan FORCING their children to do the damn work. You'd be surprised how many of my mother's students simply don't hand in any work and my mother (aka their teacher) is absolutely POWERLESS to make them do any of it. She's not allowed to reprimand them, scold them, touch them in any way, and the school's administration caters to the parents as a charity organization caters to a aristocrat.

So the question I'll pose to ya Mash is, is my mother supposed to be the student's parent AND their teacher (aka hand out AND force them to do the work as well)? Because at her current salary she's isn't paid NEARLY ENOUGH to do that. Half of my mom's students quite simply WON'T DO ANY HOMEWORK (a stated fact by my Mom to me) and she's powerless to make them (or their parents) comply! Should a teacher be penalized for that?

Of course not. I wasn't vouching for that.

I was curious how else we can determine if a teacher is actually doing their job or not.

I agree with this kinda rating, I've met more teachers who didn't give a crap if we learned or not than teachers who actually cared about us. But I'd only approve of this method starting after highschool, before i realize that there will be a lot of kids not giving a crap about their education
