the big change coming to television sets next February is no biggie to me..all this time i thought it meant all channels would be in high definition...rats..no it just means digital..damn big deal..i already have digital...and i do have high definition on certain channels..

and why are they doing this anyway...i don't understand..

Federal regulations made the TV channels that brodcast in radio waves to cease and dissist. I guess they need those radio waves.

And all of our fucking tax dollars are going to fucking digital boxes for those who don't have them already. It is not a necessity of life to have TV. Make people buy the conversion boxes. If they cant afford it, buy a news paper or listen to the radio for news. We have tornado warning sirens, TV isn't a life necessity. I'm irritated we have to pay for this shit for those who cant afford it. Lame.

DTV = Digital Television
HDTV = High Definition Television

First off, these acronyms are not the same. That should have been a great hint right there that one does not equal the other.

As for the rest of the business, all of this was done because TV makers get seats on the FCC. That's why we have a "transition date", rather than just phasing it in as we go. If there weren't a federally mandated deadline, then all those NTSC (the traditional North American television standard) sets that you bought for a thousand dollars a couple of years ago would still be useful and you wouldn't have to pay Sony, Panasonic, RCA, and all the other guys a premium to buy one of their fancy new LCD or plasma TVs that like most consumer electronics made in this decade, are designed to go out in a few years.

Lol,a lot of the old things are going out the window so they can get people to spend money on updates.Just like pretty soon all Play Station 2 stuff will stop selling and they no longer sell new songs in records for record players and they don't make cassettes any longer.
