I would like to know if it is at all possible for clips to be posted in any format than realplayer .rm?

I have never been able to get realplayer to work. For most of my audio or video, I use winamp agent or windows media, or quicktime, which all work great.

It is only for .rm files that I even downloaded realplayer, and guess what?

"Realplayer requires additional components to play this selection. Please wait while a software update is located."

"There is no softare update from real to support this content."

What? Realplayer doesn't support it's own content? Tried uninstalling, reinstalling realplayer. No help. Made sure it was set to accept it's own filetypes. It was.

Realplayer is literally USELESS software. Any clips I see in .rm format... well, technically, I -don't- see.

Anybody else have a word on this? Maybe a fix or workaround? ( such as some -actual- software that support .rm filetypes? )

I know - the latest RealPlayer seems to be a pile of digital crap. On the up side, at least you can get the program to load, which is more than I can.

I have found though, that I can play most realplayer files in Windows Media Player (the latest version) - just drag and drop on the player and more than 9 times out of ten it'll play like any other file. 🙂

I also hate RealPlayer, but am stuck with it because it is built into my ISP's software 🙁

If you can completely uninstall it, I recommend the well-regarded Real Alternative, free at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

If you prefer to play Real Media with Winamp, you could try this: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Audio_Input_Plugin_for_Winamp.htm (but you must have RealPlayer or Real Alternative installed first), or if you prefer Windows Media Player, you can try this: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/RealMedia_Splitter.htm (but again, you need either RealPlayer or Real Alternative installed first).

Best of luck,

Before on my old computer when i downloaded rm files for real player it would sometimes not work and if they were .ram files they would never work. But when i got my new computer recently it came with real player pre-installed and it works perfectly, so i'm thinking its probably the fact that its free and doesn't have all the features of the full version

Personally I use the Ace Mega Kodecs Pack. It plays everything and anything in mplayer classic. I play quicktime, real mediea, even streaming windows and real media just fine with it. Hehe, I even use it to watch my DVDs.

It has nothing to do with it being free; .rm is the ONLY reason anyone would download realplayer... well that and .ram. I can play .ram fine, it's just .rm.

.rm Is the format realplayer has designed for it's OWN player, so there is no reason it should not be able to play it.

On the plus side, I love the alternatives, particularly to use winamp, which seems to rock the rest of the media players.

I get that additional components message when I try to open it directly off the board. When I downloaded and open it off my desktop it plays fine for me. Other than that I can't offer anything.

Hey, people. Who says that you have to be stuck with Real Player to play .rm or .ram files? Remember, if it has to do with computers or Microsoft then you can rest assured there is a decent work-around to the root problem. Go ahead and check out Real Alternative 1.35 and please give your support to Open Source (freeware) projects to all the freelance programmers and software developers out there!

Real Alternative 1.35 FREE!!!
Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install the official RealPlayer. You do need a media player that is capable of playing RealMedia files. The included Media Player Classic supports it. Supported are RealAudio (.ra .rpm), RealVideo (.rm .ram .rmvb), RealText (.rt), and ReadPix (.rp). Not fully supported are: Streaming smil files (.smi .smil) and Realmedia embedded in webpages.

Did y'all try saving the clips first, then playing them? That has always worked for me.

I noticed when I saved, I couldn't get .ram clips to work. LOL

Oh well, I downloaded the .rm codec for Winamp and it works fine. Not too mention it doesn't come on blaring loud when it opens.
