As the situation between Ross and Kayley was getting back to normal, another problem developed for Ross
This time, it had nothing to do with a man named Tim Patrick.
This time, it involved none other than one of Ross, Fritz, and Steve's most important energy clients, a man named Alan Hell.
So far, Alan had introduced Ross, to partners in Alan's New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia offices, and all had gone very well, with hundreds of investors signing up for the oil and gas company due to Alan's introductions of his partners to Ross, Fritz and Steve.
One day, Alan called Ross, asking Ross for the last thing Ross ever expected
"Ross, I would like to take you to lunch in the next couple of days if you are free. I will lay it on the table, while we are still doing "Well", business at my firm is down, and I think we need a new strategy, PR and Marketing Campaign. Naturally, the only man I would trust to advise me, work on, and complete such a campaign is you. We already work so well together with all the money everyone has made through the mutual work of you, I, Fritz and Steve at RFS Energy" Alan said.
"Sure, Alan, give me one day to check something, then I will call you tomorrow and we will set something up" Ross said.
Ross got off the phone, and felt extremely uncomfortable. Logically, the first person Ross called after such a phone call with Alan Hell, was Fritz.
"Fritz, you are not going to believe this. Alan Hell just called me. Alan wants to meet me to discuss that I should reorganize and arrange a new marketing campaign for him with his law firm. Alan of course is one of our most, if not our most, important energy client. I feel.. extremely apprehensive on working with him involving anything with Marketing, PR or RossShell. Yet, even though we all consider Alan a friend, we also all know that I have to be very careful with Alan or it will cost us a mint in potential energy deals and other things going forward. You being the calm , rational, directive one, what and how would you handle this?" Ross asked.
Fritz started to laugh, but almost, sympathetically, and never with intent to put down his best friend and partner Ross. "So, the great and mighty Ross C does have an Achillies Hell? In all the years I know you, Ross, I have never, ever , heard you talk this way about business. Now, to answer your question. My advice. Meet with our partner and friend Mister Hell. By all means keep quiet and let Alan do all,. and I mean all the talking. Once he is done, tell him that you need to see a full plan of what he might think he wants. I'm not a PR and Marketing man like you are, but from a business standpoint, if you and I discuss it, I think I can help you with how to go about it" Fritz said.
"Thanks, buddy, we will see" Ross said.
That night, when Ross got home, Ross told Kayley about Alan Hell's phone call.
"Alan Hell wants me, and ah, RossShell, which is of course me, to reorganize his firm's marketing campaign to bring in more business. Alan says his business and his financial intake is down due to the economy. I'm not comfortable with this at all, Kale, considering how important of an investor Alan and his partners are to RFS Energy" Ross said.
Kayley laughed. "Ross C actually scared of something in business? I thought I would never see the day!"
"Will you please stop joking around, teacher. This could be serious. I come home to my partner of 25 years to ask her advice, and you are laughing in my face. Not very supportive" Ross said, in a calm but pointed tone.
Kayley kissed Ross. "Okay, I'm sorry. Now, to answer your question, I would meet with Alan. Even though you know Alan well and like him , and how well you , Fritz and Steve have worked with him involving the energy company, this is a totally different situation. Let Alan do all, and I mean all, the talking. When Alan is done, carefully choose your words, and see what if anything you can advise him, and go from there" Kayley said.
"Thank You, Teacher. Again, you are the level head in this duo of ours. With my emotional behavior, RossShell would have been out of business and we would have been broke years ago" Ross said.
That night, Ross tried to sleep, but did not.
In the morning, Ross dressed in a navy suit with white shirt and red tie. He went to the office, did mundane office work in the morning, and then left at 1215 for his 1 pm meeting at a steakhouse with Alan Hell.
Ross arrived first, and when Alan came in, Ross stood up, and shook Alan's hand.
The men sat down , ordered drinks and lunch, and then got down to business.
"Ross, while we know that I am far from "struggling" I did not like it when my company financial consultants told me that my business and intake was down twenty percent last year. I think my firm needs to come up with a new marketing campaign. We both know that you are the only person I would trust to do that. I also checked with.. ahem, another attorney friend of mine, and it is to say "Kosher" for me to ask you and RossShell to devise a marketing campaign for me. My investments in the oil and gas are a side venture. Thus, here are my ideas. There is really no timetable. I figure, take 30 days to look at it, draw up a rough draft, show that to me, and then say, 90 days for a completed project to be ready to use" Alan said.
Ross smiled. "Alan. Thank You for the opportunity. My question is this. I can and will certainly plan all of what you want me to do. Yet, one of my Senior Vice Presidents, a very competent and kind guy, John, has been helping me with all of the most important marketing and PR clients in the office. Will you authorize me to discuss it with John, and get any input from him that might be helpful?" Ross asked.
Alan laughed. "Ross, you can discuss it with the man in the moon for all I care as long as it gets done. If I can make millions of dollars from you in oil and gas, and you are one of the most prominent and PR marketing guys in the city of New York, I am confident that you can draw up a new strategy for sales for my law firm. Please just do what you normally would for any client, and show it to me, we will go from there" Alan said.
"Okay, I will look it over, talk to some people, and keep in touch this week" Ross said.
"Fine, just great" Alan replied.
When Ross got back to the office, he discussed what Alan Hell wanted to do with John.
"John, Alan Hell wants us to reorganize his law firm campaign slogan to draw in more business. He wants me to do it., I need your advice and input, please just look at what he gave me here, write down some free thinking advice on what he might do , show it to me, I will write down my thoughts, we will do a first draft, and then when that is done, I will call Alan , meet him, and show it to him, and we go from there" Ross said.
"Okay Ross" John said.
Ross then called Fritz Fritz's predictable question was "What did Mister Hell want?"
"Ohhhh not much, just for me to draw up a new marketing slogan for his law firm to bring in more business. You know I am not comfortable with that because of how important of a client he is to us for RFS Energy. I know that I have to give it my best shot" Ross said.
"Just be careful, do what you do best, and see" Fritz said.
That night, Ross came home and told Kayley of Ross's meeting with Alan Hell.
"Alan Hell wants me to rearrange a new marketing campaign for his law firm to bring in more business. You know that I am not at all comfortable with that due to all the lessons that teacher has taught me about "mixing it up" too much. Yet, because Alan is probably RFS Energy's most important client and investor, I have to do what he asks me to do, no questions asked. I told John, my top Vice President to work on this with me. Hopefully we will find a way through" Ross said.
Kayley kissed Ross. "I have confidence in you. Mister Hell has made millions of dollars with you in RFS Energy. He wants you to change around a marketing campaign, your specialty. Just do what you do best, and you will be just fine" Kayley said.

That night, after making love with Kayley, Ross awakened in the middle of the night, went into his den, took out the papers and the request Alan had given him , started reading, and was really uncomfortable.
Why was Ross so sensitive to something that was usually so "routine" to him.?
Would all go smoothly with the campaign, or would something happen to mess it up and hurt Ross's wonderful relationship businesswise so far with Alan Hell.?
Those things would be seen.
