I think I posted how.. several months ago.. I started going to the gym on a regular basis. I usually go.. three times a week, and do.. two miles on the treadmill each time, which takes a half hour.. or a little more.

I've definitely lost weight, and my appetite is less.

My question is.. what have forum members heard or been advised about what the recommended amount of exercise is?

I don't think I could go to the gym and do the treadmill every day.. or on consecutive days. Usually.. the day after I do my 2 miles/half hour or more on the treadmill, my legs are dead and sore, and it takes a day to recover, and get rid of the soreness.

Any advice or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I saw a cardiologist in 2007. He advised exercising vigorously enough to get my heart rate up over 120 for 35 minutes, three times per week. That is when I began my exercise walks in Central Park.

For the first six months I wore a heart monitor during exercise to verify my heart rate. But after I while I knew by how I felt what it would say before I looked at it, so I put it aside. I generally exercise on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, now for about 45 minutes.

Understood mils.

LOL maniac. I have a pot belly, but it doesn't seem as bad or as big since I started the treadmill walks at the gym.

Maybe do cardiovascular training every other day, and work in some beginner-level strength training on your off days? Doesn't need to be anything fancy, plain old push-ups, sit-ups and squats will get you started, right from the comfort of your own home. (Consult with your doctor first if you have any kind of health issues.)

Thanks, asu.

I need to get a floor mat or area rug. My apartment has all bare floors, so doing situps or pushups is not condusive in this setting.
