Red Dragon

Here's the first picture of a red dragon I've ever drawn. 🙂

Its the first dragon I've ever drawn as well, and I'm looking forward to drawing more dragons of different types and allignments and of varying ages. 🙂

Drawn with a mechanical no. 2 pencil, and colored with prismacolor pencils. Minor PSP work.

Here is a exerpt of a profile for red dragons (taken from a D&D monster manuel):

"Red dragons are the most covetous of all dragons, forever seeking to increase their treasure hoards. They are exceptionally vain, which is reflected in their proud bearing and disdainful expression.

Red dragons lair in large caves that extend deep into the earth. However, they always have a high perch nearby from which to hauntily survey their territory, which they consider to be everything in sight. Their high perch sometimes intrudes upon the territory of a silver dragon, and for this reason red dragons and silver dragons are often enemies.

Red dragons are meat-eaters by preferance, and their favorite food is a human or elven youth. Sometimes they charm villagers into regularly sacrificing maidens to them."

Great work! Your Red Dragon is a proud beast (just the proper hint of low angle to give him weight and majesty). Those hot colors nicely convey his fiery temper! All the appropriate dragonish elements are present... I particularly appreciate the subtile spiral in the horn. Am most anxious to see which dragon comes next. This should be a handsome series of portraits when you're finished!

Thank guys. 🙂 I used a reference picture to ensure accuracy, so this picture isn't completely original. Though I did color it completely differently and added some extra minute details that weren't in the reference picture, making it my own.

LOL, actually, you wouldn't be the first to say something like that about this picture. There was this girl on DA (two girls actually) who thought he was cute.

-laughs- Whoops! Didn't realize that was coming out...gotta...gotta watch that. He kinda looks like a badass, but the kind you could go for a ride on and he'd be cool with it. (I suppose if you really were on his back going for a ride you'd better HOPE he'd be cool with it.)

Well, red dragons are badasses and having a badass rider is the only way a badass red dragon would allow such a thing. 😀

I think I'll draw that some time, a dragon rider. Thanks for the idea.

Ah, you mean Shooting Star, the demon dragon.

Emperor Beld actually had a psychic bond with Narse (the black dragon of Marmo). Its a shame more time wasn't put into this connection and into alot of things really.

Record of Lodoss War left alot to be desired as far as story telling goes. The OVA was better but shorter, and the tv series, meant to be the continuity of the first half of the OVA (leaving the second half of the OVA as an alternative ending) seemed more prolonged but also lacking a complete definition.

All of the details are in the novel, but sadly enough it's left up to us to research facts and fill in the blanks.
