Yes one too many encounters with those pesky 109,s i,m afraid, the skies of good old blighty are going to be that little bit more dangerous for a few weeks. Never saw it coming (you never do old chap) had a Me 110 in the cross hairs caught him with a good burst, both engines streaming with glycol and he went in to a dive and I followed him down then gerry caught me (yellow nosed 109) next thing I know the old merlin gives up on me spouting engine oil a flames and Red Indian decides to "Take silk" I flopped her over pushed the canopy back pressed release and away i went for a "Brolly Hop" and straight in to a green house roof.

So I am off for some hand surgery on Monday so I will not be around for a while (5 hours long they tell me) hope to see you all soon with a much improved wanking spanner! Tally Ho!!!

I've got to assume

that somewhere in all that blather lies a kernel of truth. Are you indeed going in for hand surgery?

If so, I wish you luck and a salutary recovery, as I've had some joint problems myself, and know just how irksome and painful they can be. I wish you short physical therapy, good hospital food, and flying pigs (I imagine you'll get at least one of the three, although it probably won't be the food, as British food is mostly swill 😉 ).

Take care, and let me know how it goes, old bean!

😉

Hmmm...5 hours eh? Carpal tunnel, maybe? Hope things heal quickly for you. I guess you'll be spending a little less time online even after you're done. It's a long and difficult recoup. So, be patient with yourself. See ya soon.

Ann

No its worse than that!

Its replacement joints and undoing a failed zancoli proceedure, lots of fun dont you think! and then its 12 weeks of misery in physiotherapy and occupational therapy I think they recruit those people from nazi death camps!! and hopefully at the end of it I will be able to play again. Thanks for the support anyway, you are spot on biscuit about the hospitals over here, flying pigs indeed! where IS my spitfire when I need it? Tally Ho!!

Red,
Darlin', I'm glad to see you doing what needs to be done! I hope to hear you *tickle* the ivories when you're all healed. See how I'm behaving? No mention of tickling soft feeties or anything! 😉

I'm SO wanting to take the piss outta ya in this post, but I can't. I know how important this decision is and I hope it works to your benefit. You'll be in my thoughts and I'll be checking in on ya!

Just try to be nice. If you ask too many questions of that ?sweet? nursing staff when they are watching "Dirty Harry" and you might get labled as a problem. HEHE...🙂

JoBelle 🙂

If you had been flying a P-51 Mustang, this wouldn't have happened. Let that be a lesson to you, old chap!

Then again, if you'd been flying something with Inertial Compensators, it wouldn't have happened either.😀

Good luck, Injun and hope to see you back soon.😎

...either that, or you could remain on the ground like me 🙂 !

Here's wishing you as quick and painless a recovery as is possible, red. (Unsolicited tip) Don't pull the trigger until their rump is squarely in the crosshairs.

Report from the front lines.....

"Red Indian down, Red Indian down!" It appears that after Red was found in the mangled wreckage of his Spit, a young family took him in and nursed him back to health. He's growing old and lazy on a farm just west of Derby. 😉

OK, now for those who are interested for real. I talked to Red today, and he's doing well. His hand came through surgery intact, and the doctors say it was a successful work. He's not sure yet as his hand looks something akin to a football, but he trusts his physician and hopes for the best!

He says when he can type once more, he'll be back online insulting folks and rightfully pissing them off. 😉 Gotta love an honest man!

Jo...who gets the feeling she'll be paying for the farm comment eventually. 🙂

An RAF Sick bay "somewhere in England"

Cripes! what a bally carry on this is old bean, trussed up like a turkey, the " port engine" out of commission, dashed awkward writing with one hand, (reminds me of the time all four brownings on my port wing went for a burton!) still these young nurses help the healing process dont you know!!! getting very frustrated now, just itching to get back aloft and sort "gerry" out!!

So, I am back at home as you can see having been convalessing with my mum (I cant help feeling it was more for her benifit than mine!) thanks for the messages of support, lets hope they have got it right this time. Right its time to have a look round on the site, TALLY HO!!!

Sorry t'hear y'had t'get surgery, sir. Glad y'didn't croak, or anything like it. Hope your mum's feedin' ya well, brother. If not, I hope you're bein' nice to her ANYWAY. 😉

Get well soon,

dvnc

Nice to see your name on here again

RED , I stand corrected on the farm bit. It was, instead, an architect's ego trip that you've been ramblin' around in for the last week. But, growing old and lazy...hehe..I stand by that~! Let's see how long it takes before that hand is in fine tickler fashion . 😉

Again, glad you're up and about, darlin'.

Jo...who has it on good word that Red was ever sweet to his mum, even when she acted like he was her little-bitty-baby all over again. 😛

"Little bitty baby"??!!

God help us if the americans ever get involved in this war!

"Inertial compensators"?? My Squadron leader knows nothing about this new engine, I hope its Rolls Royce.

The P51 Mustangs of that era did use Rolls Royce engines for better range and power at high altitudes. The American engines were great at low altitude, but lost power up high.

The Mustang Mk. I (built to an RAF requirement) was intended as a low to medium altitude fighter bomber. It had a naturally aspirated Packard Allison engine that was adequate for the intended service.

The first Merlin-engined Mustang was an experiment that turned out spectacularly well. The secret was the supercharger. It wasn't unique to the Merlin, but was common on aircraft designed for high altitude operation (for example, the B-17 and B-29.)

The Merlin engine was initially produced here because of arrangements the British made with American manufacturers before our entry into WWII. After 1941, it was a matter of mass producing a successful design rather than going to the trouble to design a suitable fighter engine from scratch. We built a lot more Merlins than the Brits did.
