anyone seen this movie yet? from the previews and such, it looked like a cool movie. then i saw it......

well, my only guess is that they were short on budget, so certain things had to go. like, STORY. it has a great concept. "mythical" dragons are awakened and destroy the Earth. bands of Humans try to stop them. this movie could have done wonders, but again, it was disappointing. not enough dragons, and not to much story development. too many things went unexplained. like, how in the world did the dragons destroy the military power of the world???

anybody else have an opinion?

I liked that movie....

...the FIRST TIME I saw it, when it was called "Starship Troopers".......(thank you David Spade! LOL 😀 )

I've heard mixed reviews, but I'm going to see it anyway, mostly because I have this thing for dragons.

Since they pulled off Lord of the Rings, I'm dying for someone to make a movie (perhaps a trilogy due to size) of Anne McCaffery's "Dragonriders of Pern".

Now that would be a dragon movie!

😎

Hell yeah!

Kewl, another Pern fan. Its funny, I havent even read the series in particular, but did end up getting the Dragonriders GUIDE to Pern, like this atlas of their world and stuff. Think I got it from an aunt or something. But I still think it would be a better movie then Reign....

Bummer to hear that the reviews are accurate. I'm wit' Dave2112 and Cheshire Cat - I'd dig a movie series on the Pern novels. Lots o' material, though. One would HAVE to hope they didn't cram too much into one movie, or get too loose between films, and lose the plot thread.

One can dream...

Trilogies...

The recent trend of trilogies...coincidentally, most of which are great movios (LotR, Spiderman, Matrix, StarWars)...has greatly opened up opportunities for overlong stories to make it to the big screen. I too would enjoy a Pern trilogy, but I would REALLY like to see a Peter F. Hamilton "Night's Dawn" trilogy (each book in the trilogy was so long that when they came out in paperback they had to be broken into two books!) which is the best series known to man. 🙂

I think it looks like toe tappin' fun. All you have to do is just accept the, um, 'creative licensing', and enjoy the show.

Oh, c'mon... a movie with dragons AND helicopters? This I have to see 😀

it was...umm.....hmmm...ok i guess.i`m still trying to find the words to describe it.i will say this though, this movie will not be added to my dvd collection

With all the great special effects they have in movies these days, I think the Dragonlance series by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickman has HUGE big screen potential.

I'd have to say that I'd like to see that. Instead of churning out the lousy Dungeons & Dragons movie that they made, I think producing a movie based off of one of the TSR/WOTC novels would have been MUCH more appealing, especially Dragonlance.

As far as Reign of Fire, I didn't care too much for it. I just can't swallow the idea that all the greatest military powers in the world (The best, of course, being the United States Marines! I'm biased, of course!), could not compete against dragons with animal intelligence. Maybe if the dragons were portrayed as imposing, supra-intelligent beings with power-hungry ambition, the apocolyptic atmosphere would have been more believable. Also, the main character was a foolish putz.

that was the same feeling i had about Reign of Fire. how in the world did a bunch of dragons take out the military might of all nations. if they showed perhaps dragons taking out military jets, tanks, aircraft carriers, etc, then perhaps their might would have been more understood. the commercials and previews told us that they had "superior intelligience", but we never got to really see it.

then after all the powers of the world are destroyed, 1 man kills the male dragon and now the world is saved. he shot what i consider a "firecracker" compared to a missile into the dragons mouth. gee, no General thought of that? i wish they let me write the movie. i would have put a little more emphasis on the dragons dominating, rather than these people learning how to live in a community.

Here's my 30 second review, with no spoilers for those who haven't yet seen it...

The dragons themselves were very well done special effects. There are a handful (ie, not many) shots where I found myself just saying, "That was pretty cool".

And that's where my positive opinion of this movie ends. I didn't like the plot. I didn't like the cinematography (sp?). I didn't care for the acting. And to be honest, I was disappointed that there weren't more "That was pretty cool" shots to look back on. Did they think people were buying tickets to this movie to see Matthew McCheese, or to see fire breathing, mass destructing dragons kicking ass? This is similar to the disappointment I experienced after seeing the latest Godzilla movie with Matthew Bueller, where I was thinking to myself, "How did they not bat that one out of the park?"

As bad as the Jurassic Park sequels were, at least you didn't leave the theater wondering why they didn't try to fit more dinosaurs into the films.

And I think that is the fundamental problem with Reign of Fire. My guess is they weren't working with a "Jurassic Park" budget, so had to make every special effect count. Unfortunately, when the main draw to a movie IS the special effects, this doesn't translate well to viewer happiness. This movie needed more dragons, more dragons, more dragons.

One question...where did they get fuel for their vehicles?

Hope this helps anyone who is wondering whether or not to see this.
