I've been having this problem.I click reply,type my message then hit submit.When i do i get an error message,username not found.

The username displayed is altered.Hope you don't mind Carl,i'll use your name as an example.🙂 It comes up Paracarl 44 instead of paracarl44 so i have to erase that and enter the right name.

This happens with everyone unless they have a short name,such as Kered.Anyone else have this problem?
 
Are you absolutely certain you're hitting the "Reply" button and not the "Forward" button next to it? it may sound stupid but I know I've done that more than once.

The forum shouldn't be altering usernames when it makes replies. I've tried this on a few longer usernames in my PM inbox and it hasn't done anything to them. Very strange.
 
It might be because of the new handles that were made up for the ACF.. Were those all shut down, or only some of them?

Basically, just type out as much of the handle as you know and a drop down menu will come up. Just select the proper spelling from the list. 🙂

I'm sure it's not me hitting forward rather then reply HDS.This has actually been going on for some time,i've just never bothered with it.In fact,it just happened again and i was very carefull not to hit forward.Tis a puzzlement.:idunno:
 
So you receive a PM from a member you know to be valid, right? You're not making a PM from scratch? If not, the ACF stuff shouldn't play a role. If you are making a PM from scratch, then Mini HDS up there may well be correct.

This is a peculiar thing. I can't fathom why that would be happening; I've never seen it happen to anyone else, myself included. Can you tell me the PM ID of one that's done this, by any chance? I can go look at the senders to see if there's something odd there.

To get the PM ID simply open one of the PMs. Look for "&pmid=######" in the address at the top of your browser window, where the #'s are replaced by actual digits.

Since you asked,it happens when i respond to a pm you yourself have sent me.And i forgot to add that after the username is ;.And i know for a fact that another person i pm on a regular basis did not have his name altered during the ACF incident.I'd rather not mention his name here to protect his privacy but i will pm it if you like.😛

This has been going on long before ACF.

No, I don't need the name. If it is happening to all long names that's a strange thing. Does it happen consistently? In other words, will it always occur when you reply to that PM? Say you went to a PM that did it right now and hit Reply; would the effect occur?

Yes,all the time.It happened several times tonight.It's not a real problem and easy to fix,i just think it's rather strange.Don't lose any sleep over it.🙂 I was mostly curious if anyone else had the same problem.
 
Have you tried this in a browser other than the one you currently use? For example, if you use Internet Explorer (any version), have you tried replying to a PM using Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome or Safari? As I have a hard time seeing how the board software could be doing this I suspect it is a client-side (meaning you) issue.

I have not tried another browser.It was a problem with IE 6,i now use IE 7 so i suspect you are correct about the problem being on this end.And it's not that large an issue.It's not like i get hundreds of pms every day.🙂

Well, I can't *make* him try another browser. But, until such time, I can't rule out that IE is being a turd. 😀

Works fine with short names like yours bro.It's the long ones like HDS,Mils etc when it happens.
