Do forum members restart their computers once a day?

Usually, I just leave my computer in screen saver.

Even when I close the computer for the night, or when I'm not online when I'm home...

I just close the Google Chrome browser, close the computer, and leave it as is.

However.

When I had the computer tech here a few weeks ago to clean out the severe adware problem I was having on my computer.

The tech suggested that I should restart the computer once a day, say, every 24-36 hours.

He said that doing so cleans out , certain things, and that he thought there were benefits of restarting the system.

Until I had the computer tech here.

I used to leave the computer in screen saver, and not turn it off unless there was a thunderstorm and had to go offline.

Anyhow. My real question is.

Do forum members ever restart their computers where they restart the system, or do people just leave the system in screen saver indefinitely if not online?

Thanks.

So, from a good-practices standpoint that tech was right. However, since Windows 7 and Mac OS X operating systems are typically stable for long periods of time. I have a gaming PC which I turn on and off, but I'll leave my MacBook Pro running for a month or more with just opening and closing the case. It's a late 2008 model and the only problems I've encountered were physical. Certainly there's no harm in turning your computer on and off, the internal hardware is designed specifically with this in mind. But, the advantages are likely more theoretical and imperceptible to most users and for the most common tasks. Will it increase the lifetime of the components? Probably, but again hard to say just how appreciable that increase is.

Good to see you, happy.

Hope you're well, my friend.

Thanks for the advice.

Before this tech came to clean out the junk in my computer a few weeks ago.

I would leave it running.. indefinitely

Except if there was a thunderstorm, or I was going away for any length of time.

Which is something I rarely do, except for maybe,, a weekend, every once in a while.

Thanks again.

Interesting question i always shut the computer down at the end of the day, sometimes twice a day.

Its a bit like do you unplug all the devices when you go out or go on holiday or do you use the economy stop start on the car a matter of choice.

What the tech guy said about shutting the system down is new to me but makes sense.

One thing i do think about is what is on charge because in the uk there have been cases of house fires started by chargers being faulty original equipment is mainly ok but after market items may not be made to the same standards.

I also use surge protected extensions

I rarely go away for any length of time. Maybe a weekend, 2-3 days, but that's it.

No, I have not unplugged the computer.

I have a surge protector.

Thanks for the advice.
