Simply the innovative king of the five-string,.. and a part of everyone's lives, whether they realized it or not. One of a kind.

R.I.P. Earl. 🙁

We have lost another talented artist.

I always turn the radio up when I hear "Foggy Mountain Breakdown".

Here he is playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown with comedian Steve Martin (Steve is actually an excellent banjo player himself) in 2006

along with - Banjos Vince Gill & Albert Lee - Electric Guitar Marty Stewart - Mandolin Glen Duncan - Fiddle Randy Scruggs - Acoustic Guitar Gary Scruggs - Harmonica Paul Shaffer - Piano Jerry Douglas - Dobro Leon Russell - Organ Glenn Wolf - Bass Harry Stinson - Drums

Although not a big fan of the banjo, I was impressed when I heard one of his recordings. Rest In Peace, Mr. Scruggs.

Earl will always be a bluegrass legendary innovator. He was able to bring bluegrass to the attention of a wider audience in the 1960's via folk music and FMB in "Bonnie and Clyde" and "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" and numerous appearances on " The Beverly Hillbilles". I did get to see the Earl Scruggs Review a few times back in the 1970's. Foggy Mountain Breakdown and the Martha White jingle both brought down the house. He was also a wicked guitarist.

I never listened to him that often, but when NPR played a few of his tracks during his obit, my jaw dropped. No way could any human being play like that without studio trickery. Except that he did.

I'm almost certain Mr. Scruggs had an influence on musicians who don't even play country music.
