Dear all,
I am sorry to contribute again to the "hommage to dead people trend", but I have to inform you that Michelle Morgan has died two days ago at the venerable age of 95.
She will be fondly remembered by many amateurs of classic French cinéma for her movie "Les Orgueilleux" [1953] (eng: The Proud and the Beautiful).

Not only the film itself is an absolute must-see, but we foot fetishists will remember it for one particular scene. It takes place in Mexico, in a hotel room with no air conditioning. Soaked in sweat, she takes off her shoes, her stockings, and starts to walk barefoot, leaving footprints on the ground. The camera zooms on them like crazy, which makes me wonder if the director was not "one of us". It had a huge impact on me at a time when the Internet was not available, and images of barefoot women somewhat rare.
For the anecdote, "your" Martin Scorsese has revealed during an interview that another scene where Morgan tries to freshen up by massaging her face and her chest with ice cubes was a major influence on his erotic imagination.
Otherwise, her performances are always stellar. She really impresses with her capacity to play women with a strong character (she reminds me of my fiancée sometimes), and to express suffering, like in the aforementioned Les Orgueilleux.
For me, she is the grande dame of French Cinéma. More so than Catherine Deneuve, for instance. The only one who can rival her may be Isabelle Huppert.
