His big hit When A Man Loves A Woman was one of my favorite songs as a teenager. Rest In Peace, Mr. Sledge.

"When a Man loves a Woman" is my Mum's all-time favourite song.
It's got some pretty telling lyrics. Not heard too much of Percy Sledge's other material, but wow what a voice he shared with us.

I wasn't really a fan of him, but, again, another of the "old era" gone. And he only had the one song, as far as most of us knew. A sad song, no less. Yet, as Sir Elton later sang...."sad songs say so much".... RIP Percy.

It is a shame when talented, credible artists are only ever known for one song, yet have such a repertoire of material and wonderful live stage craft to their name, which doesn't get enough recognition.
Sometimes it's just because of their success with that song in respective countries, but sometimes they can be a victim of their own success, with the media overlooking their best work in order to provide the predictable, popular choice to the masses.
It's a shame that the other material is often only discovered when someone passes away.
I am guilty of this, I'll often only look into an artists back catalogue after hearing of their death, but hey-ho, you can't be up to speed on everyone all the time.
