Bloody Griffith Uni is charging me $450 a subject per semester, $1800 in total! Uni used to be free until the Liberals got into power and started charging HECS. Once I finish uni and start to earn more than $20000 a year, the government takes it out of my pay. If you want educated people in the country, stop making it so damn expensive for them to get that way! Aaaaaaaaaargh! On top of this I have to pay for parking and petrol to get up there because that same lovely Liberal government withdrew plans to make a light rail link into the campus. Bastards! Yet another example of how the government in this country is catering to the rich and trying to keep the poor down.

We have a saying here that you must be either wealthy or welfare to go to college. It's expensive as hell and getting education grants and financial aid is a joke. I went for one year and had to drop out because I couldn't get any help to continue. The reason? My father had a decent income (not that there was much left to show for it). Our rinky dink community college is about $4,000/yr before you even look at books, etc....and that was nearly 20 years ago!

My solution? I've gotten books used wherever possible and studied on my own. I have no degree to show off. But, the knowledge is still there.

I hear you Biggles and sympathise whole-heartedly. But in the states a full degree course at university will set you back about $200,000 if you're LUCKY! Addmittedly the tax system is different in America, but you also get shafted if you need to go into hospital as well. Watch Joe Pesci's speech in Lethal Weapon 3 to get my meaning.

The NHS may be of the same quality as the Albanian Health Service but at least it's 99% tax funded. And this is coming from a guy who'd give his right arm to live in America! 😕
