Both pitchers pitched very well, but one costly error, gave Houston a run, the only run they would need, it turned out, as Clemens shut out the Good Guys, 1-0. Paradise desperately needed a win in Game Two, with Gil Bellows on the hill. The game was a low scoring one, with the Astros Andy Pettite. It was tied, 1-1, in the ninth, when Hilary Duff, in a tie game, served up a home run. The Good Guys could not recover, dropping the game, 2-1, and facing elimination in Houston.
After an off day, the teams met in Houston for Game Three on Friday night. Charlize Theron had the ball for Paradise. She allowed but one run in six innings, but, once again, the silent Good Guy bats got her virtually none. Paradise managed to tie the game in the ninth, but, in the bottom half, their season came to a sudden and crushing end, with a home run off Amanda Bynes, for a 2-1 Houston victory, that completed a three game first round Astros sweep. The Good Guys, usually a team with such energy and fight, had none left. Naomi was injured, Mitch's mind seemed to be elsewhere, with the troubles with his father, and such, and the team, if such was possible in the playoffs, just looked flat.
The long and somber winter began, with the flight back to Paradise that Friday night. After a weekend to reflect, Mitch and Naomi were called to the team offices by Alan, that Monday:" Look, we had a horrible playoffs, we know. Naomi was injured, Mitch's mind was on personal issues, and we just stunk. You guys cant go out like this. I know you had both said retirement, but this seems an unfitting way for it to end, after so much success, so, I am offering you both raises of $100,000 for next season, and a $100,000 signing bonus each.
