I know that we have talked about the connection between our love of tickling and a possible love for other thrills as well (roller coaster being one of them.)
I just had to share the day that I had this past weekend. I went to Great Adventure on Saturday, and rode every roller coaster there at least once (except for the one that they had closed.) OMG...I had so much fun! Those that are into coasters should know that the one called "Nitro" is unbelievable! On that heart pounding trip up that HUGE climb (that most coasters have to some degree) Nitro had signs showing the height of other famous landmarks as you reached the height of each of them (ie. sphinx, london bridge, niagra falls, leaning tower of pisa. etc..) The coaster reached a height of 230 feet before PLUNGING down at what felt pretty close to a 90 degree angle. I felt like the coaster totally fell off the track and we were just freefalling back to earth...the first time I rode it (yes, I rode it more than once 😀 ) was terrifying! The friend that I was riding with said that he thought there was a turn or something on the other side, so I relaxed a bit...until I saw what was actually over the hill....nothing but straight down! I didn't expect the severity of the plunge and was so scared that I couldn't even scream....and I loved every minute of it! The ride lasted for about 4 minutes (probably 2 of that was the climb), and it was awesome!
The other coasters were great too (medusa and Batman especially), but Nitro was my favorite. I got one of those pictures taken on it, and bought it because on the third trip I got up the courage to let go of the restraints and put my hands up in the air...huge accomplishment for me! This coaster didn't have an over the shoulder harness (which really made you feel like you were hanging on by a thread). Instead it had a padded oval shaped restraint that held you down by your abdomen and upper thighs. It made that first major drop feel even more intense because I felt like I was going to pop right out of my seat! Why, you ask, did I then ride this thing THREE times if I was so scared?! I guess I'm just a total adrenaline junkie 😀
It's funny though, I hadn't been to Great Adventure in the past five or six years, so the last intense coaster I rode was "the great american scream machine". I rode that one after Nitro and Medusa, and I was so disappointed. It was much rougher and rickety than the new ones they put in there. Technology has come such a long way in the last few years! The new coasters were SO smooth it hardly felt like they were on a track! Man I love engineers...lol!
Anyone else ride this thing or any other intense coaster? I would love to know your reaction to it...
