After the Good Guys fine homestand, they went on the road, and had a decent trip. They returned to Paradise close to Memorial Day. The struggling US economy was really hitting the island hard. Tourism was down,as was attendance. Whereas in the good days, crowds of 30,000 for weeknights, and in the 40s to a sellout were common on weekends , now that was no longer so. The team was lucky if they drew 20,000 on a weeknight, and it was sometimes in the teens, and breaking 30,000 was considered good on a weekend day or night. The tickle team that ran on shoestring budget was talking about making changes, and a payroll slash again. Even trades of high salaried players were discussed. It got so bad, that the team at times had trouble making payroll, and consulted bankruptcy counsel. The wonderful tropical team that played in the beautiful refurbished ballpark near the blue water seemed to be sinking into the mud financially. The players were understandably scared. They had all agreed to pay cuts for the purpose of remaining together, and the talk of trade especially freaked everyone out, as they feared it would destroy the comraderie.
In the meantime, the team tried to take their minds off financial issues, and attempted to keep their fine play on the field going. They all dug a little deeper. Instead of being the rich, spoiled uninspired, money hungry players that most major leaguers were, they accepted that although they earned fine livings, they sacrificed to remain together, and were paid less than if they were with any other team. They also felt it their job to bust their tails every day for the struggling fans who paid their hard earned money to see them.
The Good Guys began a nine game homestand featuring the California teams. First up were the Giants, whom the Good Guys beat 2 out of 3. Then came the Padres, whom the Paradise Islanders swept behind 2 8th inning homeruns from Mitch on 2 different nights, and 3 saves from Naomi in the series. Concluding the homestand would be the Dodger blue. After a loss in the opening game, Alicia Silverstone beat the Dodgers with 6 strong innings in the middle game. The Saturday night party that week was held not in a hotel room, but at a dance club on the hotel grounds. The music was loud, there was dancing, food, and good times. There was a back room with a bed in the club, and that night's featured ticklee was a pretty brunette waitress whom the team had known from the hotel for several years. At first she was apprehensive about receiving the tickle torture from Team Tickle, but once they assured her that they would stop if the tickling got too much, she agreed. The waitress shift was over for the evening, and she stripped down to her bra and panties and was tied spread eagled to the bed, as the tickle was began on her neck with fingers, as she started to writhe and the laughter began: Heheheheheheheheheh! NO! Then, the waitress' ler, the left fielder, moved down, tickling the attractive dark haired waitress on her underarms, sides, and belly as she squealed with girlish giggles. Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe! Very ticklish! NO! After that, he tickled the waitress on her inner thighs, causing her to buck. Finally, down to the waitress feet. Although she had a job where she stood on her feet all day, this girl, named Kelly, often went for pedicures that kept her feet soft and very ticklish. The left fielder tickled Kelly on her soft ticklish soles with fingers, and then proceeded to use feathers, ice, and the dreaded electric toothbrush over Kelly's soft soles and over and under her toes. This drove Kelly out of her mind! She flexed, pointed, and wiggled her toes every which way as she filled with room with hysterical giggly girlish laughter, and begged the tortorous tickling to stop! Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehee! I'm very ticklish! I give up! Please no more tickle! NO! NO! NO!: She begged. Heheheeheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheheeehehee!!! Finally, the tickle was stopped, and she lay on the bed, panting and sweating. After this, she was untied and dressed, and the team ate dinner.
The following day, the Good Guys concluded the homestand before a crowd of 30,000 on a sunny Sunday, as Kate Hudson was dominant for 8 innings, Mitch hit another homer, and Naomi sealed the 4-1 win. Things were going well for the team on the field. They were in 1st place, and all was rosy. Now there would be a week and a half long West Coast trip. What would happen next? Stay tuned for the continuing story of the Tickle Team from Paradise Island.
