There is good music today, you just have to look for it and unfortunately, most people don't because of the assumption that it all sucks.
these are some pretty good artists that maybe aren't to certain tastes, but most could probably at least recognize the talent.
Oh, there's always good music, somewhere, of course, but there is just not groundbreaking music like there used to be on a weekly basis. And what is good? It tends to be derivative of something that's already been done. Most of what I hear is still just rooted in 20th century music.
To put it to the test, here's a
very incomplete project of mine...going day by day in the 60s into the 70s.....see how many songs and albums you recognize....it just doesn't happen this way anymore, where each week you're having your blown by something else, something that's completely out of your experience..
I'll give you an example. In autumn of 1968, Hendrix releases "Electric Ladyland". At the end of November, the Beatles release "The White Album". A couple of weeks later, The Stones release "Beggars Banquet". A few weeks later, "Led Zeppelin I" comes out. And in between all these albums you get a bunch of other classics (see below). Stuff like that just doesn't happen anymore, instant classics on a weekly basis.
"Pet Sounds"...and "Blonde On Blonde" were released on the same day! Ah, you'll see....
Enjoy, I hope you find this as fascinating as I did compiling this list. And this doesn't even scratch the surface, I just gave up on reseraching this list, I didn't even dip into all the jazz that was going on during this period, or the outlaw country stuff, or the minimalist composers....this is strictly rock and roll, with lots of stuff missing:
