My friends. Early this morning (9/23) my father stopped breathing. He was rushed to the hospital, where he is now in I.C.U. with a tube going into his lungs. The doctors say his arms move, but he is othewise unresponsive. As his health proxy, if his heart stops, or he can't continue breathing on his own, I must respect his D.N.R., and let him go. I probably won't be on-line much for a while, If you could offer up a little prayer for my father, and maybe one for us, too, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and may you all be well.

There have been several TMF members who have lost dear ones lately or at least it seems to be quite a large group recently. If this is his time he'll be among some pretty awesome people.
My dad is up there and will show him around.
Affectionate Dan's father headed up there recently.
Max's mom joined them up there just about a week ago.
So if he heads that way he'll be in good company.

Often that is one of the most precious gifts you can offer them. Your heart with guide you. You'll know what the best decision will be for him just based on your love.
I know God will guide you in this difficult time and you are in my prayers.

Double-T, I give you and your father my best wishes and what passes for my prayers. If it's his time to go home, then I hope that it happens as comfortably as possible. If it's not, then I wish him a speedy recovery. Good luck whatever happens my friend. All of our thoughts, best wishes and prayers are with you.

D-T, any deity with a gramme of common sense, would'nt only forgive you........he'd honour you. Taking such a decision is the most brave thing anyone would have to do. Not only did you face it, you didn't chicken out of it. You respected his wishes over yours and that is the act of a truly brave man. I sympathise with you my friend, but I also admire you. I seriously doubt I would have the moral fibre to do the right thing under those circumstances.

I knew before I even saw your post that something had happened to your father. The friend in me wishes there was something profound &, yet, reassuring I could say to you to make this difficult time easier.
Unfortunately, I have no such gem in my grasp. All I can think to say is how deeply sorry I am (& how inadequate just saying "I'm sorry" seems).
As you know, you (& Q) are always in my thoughts; be assured that I will continue to do so, & offer what meager prayers I can for your father's peace..... & yours.

As someone who supports voluntary euthanasia (assisted suicide to those who don't), I agree with your decision. It's not easy to respect someone's wishes when he or she no longer wants to live, but I think when someone's condition is such that each day of living becomes a slow and agonizing death, that person has a right to end his or her own life with dignity. If there's an afterlife, he'll go to heaven; if not; he's already lived a good life on earth and you'll never forget him for taking care of you and making you the person you are today.

DT.....there's nothing TO forgive. All we are required to do is to give them basic comfort and love to the best of our ability. Baisc life support being removed is no sin. It just puts the person back in the Lord's hands...where they're better off anyway. Be at peace, friend.

I cannot thank you all enough for the support and strength you gave me when I needed it the most. Delayed by red tape, I was finally able to take my dad off life support this morning (9/25). They slowly stopped giving him oxygen, so he passed out long brefore it was cut off completely, and just went to sleep. It was very peaceful and humane. Thak you all again for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. You are always in mine.
