NEWSFLASH: Saddham Hussein just had his library bombed by the US Air Force.
Reports say that both his books were severely burned and Mr. Hussein was very angry because he'd just finished colouring one of them.

Is the rumour true about Iraq being the only country in the world that has tanks with a reverse gear?

Is the other rumour true about most of the Republican Guard being in hospitals around Baghdad, with severe sunburn to their armpits?

IRAQI ARMY RESERVE FORCES INSTRUCTION MANUAL:

Chapter 1-Practical Field Excercises: How to build a white flag.

Chapter 2-Fitness and PT: Stretch both arms above your head........ and keep them there.

Chapter 3: There is no chapter 3. 🙁

You are way off mark BJ...........

........French tanks have one forward and five reverse!!!

Is there a section on strapping women and children to the front of a tank?

I was gonna say about the French tanks, but Red Indian beat me to it!

I would have said it myself, but could'nt think of a humourous way of threading it in to the Iraqi joke. 😀

Humor and rumor...

As funny as the joke may be , or not be, the Iraqis are NOT doing a good job from a strictly military table POV. They waste a lot of time moving troops unnecessarily, and they're clumsy in their positioning even at fortified positions. For a theoretically sophisticated force, they leave a lot to be desired. Even their organizational array of weaponry is "wrong" by most armies standards. They expose their locations quickly with extravagant displays of random firing, and they often deploy in such a haphazard manner that the only conclusion you could draw is that they know they're not going to be staying long.....odd indeed. They wouldn't make it through many classes at any of a dozen military schools in the US. Personally, I'm not going to educate them, but I have a feeling they're getting a couple of "lessons" every day. :sowrong: Q

And I think that's really the point isn't it. They aren't the greatest threat to the US, are they? In fact, they were no threat at all. Subject to sanctions for 12 years, under the eyescope of the UN. No evidence linking them with Al Qaeda or anything to do with 9/11. They would be pretty easy to beat relative to Iran and North Korea which posess nuclear programs that do threaten us. Bush didn't fight the war he thought would protect us. He fought the war he knew he would win and avenge the man who tried to kill his father. $80 billion. That's what he just asked the Congress for. And it's not the last request. Are we any safer? I don't think so. What a waste.

I don't know abut anyone else, but I havn't seen any evidence linking al-Qaeda to 9/11 yet. All I've seen is Osama Bin-Liner talking about how heroic the people who did it were. On one occasion he said something to the effect of............"if we HAD been responsible for this heroic effort, I would be shouting it from the mountain-tops right now." I think our leaders find them and the Iraqis convenient pegs to hang the hat of war on. Personally I shed no tears for either the Taliban regime or Saddam Hussein, but I do think we've been lied to on a massive scale.

Rook, I don't think we're worried about their fearsome infantry. It's no longer a world where the strength of a country or organization is so readily apparent. The capacity for destruction is so varied that the term "men under arms" shouldn't be considered as a gauge of strength anymore. By that standard, China and India have the "best" armies. As for being the "greatest threat", they're the one we're addressing at this time. This war is unfinished business from over a decade ago. Other threats will also need to be dealt with, but the deployment of our military is not a quick procedure. Perhaps a decisive victory in this theater will mitigate the need for further conflict...if we're lucky. Q

Q, I hope you are right

And I hope our troops have a safe trip home.
