My thinking on this was that the jaw immobilizer keeps her teeth clenched, sort of a gag in itself forced to laugh through gritted teeth. The toes wiggling and waving about in the air helplessly I thought was a cruel juxtaposition to the über-restraint of the rest of the body... kind of the same psychological dilema as the classic "dangling foot over the bed" vulnerability. Thank you, Augustine. I'm a huge fan.
